Last night, bastet and I went with a friend to the Arclight theater in Hollywood for an awards cerimony honouring Steve McQueen.

The group presenting the honour is the Jules Verne Society. They are into sci-fi, science, adventure, and environmental conservation.

To honour Steve, they showed Bullitt on the big screen! It flat out ROCKED!!! The chase is intense on a big screen.

In attendance, and were interviewed prior to the screening, were Robert Vaughn, Jacqueline Bisset, Don Gordon, Georg Stanford Brown, Pat Renella and Lalo Schifrin, the writer of the musical score and Pablo Ferro, creator of the opening credit sequence.

Also, Chad, his son, and most all of the McQueen clan were there.

These are some pics I took... Pic 1 is a clone of the 'Stang, pic 2 is a clone of the Charger.

Out front, the local Bullitt Mustang Club had premium parking! I just liked the action effect.

That movie left a lasting impression on me as did Steve McQueen. Usually he was a quiet, lone wolf type character that was always driven. Sounds like an interesting night out.

Yup, you should ... I don't know if they have a re-mastered Blu-Ray out yet, but I should look around because I'd like to see it in HD.

Andy - I bet that was awesome on the big screen. It would be cool on IMAX.

I can still remember everyone in the audiance crunching down as the cars would hit after each jump. The movie almost made me like Fords. Interesting night out on the town Andy.

I have this poster laying around somewhere, going to frame it one of these days.

Wow... this sure struck a chord. And a postive one.

Love it!

IT was a cool night out! Sorry, no more pics worth sharing. The lighting was bad, and I didn't bring the big flash, so I had to make do with what I had... that and a little photo shop. To make matters worse, the inside lighting sucked, too! I should have brought the phaser along (Nikon SP800 flash, guide index somewhere near 200!).

I am glad I got the pics I got, tho!

One thing with Steve and stunts... the insurance companies started to get rather forceful that he was to not do his own stunts... he did them anyway!

He died too young at 50, but I suspect his life was meant to be short. In 50 years he packed so much into it; he did lead a full long life.

I'm not wild about the rivets.

My C4 on slicks -
Only if I had $4k in new suspension parts.

I still think we need wheels with real balls.

It was a great evening. Jacqueline Bisset still looked fabulous, and Robert Vaugh was so funny!

It was my first time seeing the whole movie, and it was quite a good little cop drama. The chase scene reminded my why I hate driving in San Fran.

As a little girl I grew up with most of Steve McQueens works. Bullit, Great Escape, SandPebbles, and a Movie in which Steve McQueen was driving a Ford Gt-40. Dad loved to watch them during snow storms. So by the time I was 5-6 in 1985 or 86 I could recite most of the lines, I was lucky Steve never talked much! . Other kids loved Elmo and Big Bird I had a major crush on a Mustang fastback with American Racing Torq Thrust wheels. Daddy's Girl.

On Speed last night, they had a special on the best movie chase scenes... Obviously, Bullitt was in there... but they also included the racing movies.

The one you are thinking of, Erin, is LeMans. I don't think he was driving the GT40 in that, I think it was a Ferrari prototype.

They also discussed that crap movie "Driven." It was about CART racing. That movie was so bad... And Days of Thunder... They made both out to look like Oscar winning think pieces. Not quite.

The best racing movie of all time is Grand Prix with James Garner. We saw that at an event in Hollywood a few years back on the big screen, too, way cool.

It was LeMans and it was a Ferrari, Dad corrected me..What I liked about Grand Prix was the split screen of the venturis being throttled. Butterfly took on a new meaning for me after that movie!

I was about 16 or 17 when, "LeMans", came out in the theaters. As I recall from reading one of the car mags of the day, and from watching the movie, McQueen drove a Porsche 917 in that film. Further, the Ferraris weren't really Ferraris in the film. When the producers approached Enzo Ferrari to get some cars for the film, Enzo wouldn't do it because a Ferrari didn't win the film's race. The prominent Ferraris in the film were actually, rebodied Lolas, if I'm recalling correctly.

I'm not saying this is the end of discussion, just my .02 as I recall it.

When Erin was a little kid she threw-up watching the car chase in Bullit. and would playi make believe car racing in the 87 Vette in the garage. Funny the things kids remember! She would sit in that vette for hours, day dreaming. Cool.
