I had my 85 painted at maaco 2 years ago and still looks good. I cost me $899 and they fixed my driver side window, it was stuck in the down position.

Maaco did mine 3 years ago.
they did ALL of the prep and the paint and primer alone cost over $900 and $400 to repair rear passenger quarter panel. Still only came to $2300. They have also repainted my wing twice and mirrors twice from chips over 7 months after first paint.

It looks great! Just for info., Did they remove the bumpers? Looks great for $2300. Their painters shoot a lot of cars, so they should be good at laying it down. It's just you take that chance at a poor prep job depending on where you go. However, that is the case with anything.

They look sharp but the painted over the moulding too. I wonder how that will hold up. I can't tell on the black car if it was or not. I paid $2300 at the dealer with GM paints and materials. Exterior only. They removed the trim and bumpers. came out great. I'll have to post some pics when I take them .... soon. It's Artic White.

My last car was painted at Maaco and shined up great but after 5-6 years started peeling off. Vette is the same way but I'm not sure where it was painted.

I need to start stashing away a few bucks toward a paint job - most of the car is in pretty decent shape, but the hood has a couple good dings in it, and then there's the typical road rash on the front bumper and lower part of the sides. Maybe I can get away with a partial - black is probably the easiest to match, so I'm told.

No. Bumpers and moldings stayed on. I plan on repainting the entire car once it starts to go in a slightly different orange at which time I will do it right and pay the piper

I win!
Painted the car back in summer 98 for $276. I then painted my new hood a few years ago for $100. Total investment
$376
So the paintjob you see in this pic minus the hood is over 10 years old.

I truely don't recall the brand used in 98 I can tell you what I painted the hood with when I get home I still have some left. It is all single stage, no clearcoat.
Back when I did the car I was too scared to do base coat clear coat so I did it single then when I did the hood I was afraid there would be a big difference if I used clearcoat so I did that single too.

Been wanting to try Summit's 2 stage but haven't had anything to paint lately.

I usually use PPG but it's big $$$$$.
