Famosa after the March meets lost so much money they will be cutting down on some of the events. I live 30 miles away been going there since high school 1970. It use to be a hot spot. Still in the middle of orchards.

Last time I was at Famoso, the odor of the rotting fruit from those orchards about killed us. Must have been the end of summer, I remember it was hot.

Track was in poor condition back then, a lot of potholes in the lanes and pits.... hope its improved.

Well AAA had a lot to do with getting it in shape as a major sponcer. Now there by the west entrance is about a 1/4 mile of almond shell waiting to be turned into fule. Ever now and then a pile of them burst into flames and makes a big mess.

are you talking about drag strips . fontana is 197.6 miles from me and famoso 199.1 miles . next time your in lone pine stop by mount whitney golf club . i am the golf pro/course supt there and have been here for over 20 yrs. i live in the yellow and white mobile home at the top of the hill. we do have some fun roads to play on .every once in a while i on a summer winter morning i drive over to paniment valley @ sunrise and do a little top end run . the road is dead straight for 4 miles and 150 ft below sea level . coming from 3700 ft in lone pine it feels like the car got a 100 shot of juice and the sound the car makes in that valley just way too much fun .. as far as tracks go i think famoso is about 2or 3 tenths faster . but i like the way fontana is run with 50 cars per group where famoso is a free for all .you end up spending all your time in the staging lanes . as they dont have any group designations . dont get me wrong i like both for different reasons and have known blake @ famoso for years

Your right about Famosa it has had a drop in appeal over the years.Shirley Muldowney was the grand marshal at last years March meets. The track condition caused a lot of down fall for the sport. It was dangerous and no one wanted to up grade it for years. In the old days we had the big names racing there, Connie and Scot Kalitta, Big daddy Don the Snake Paroadone, Don Garlits, and a lot of others. I was into bracket racing.
It does sit in the middle of nowhere you park in a field and the stands and racing grounds havent changed since I was a kid in the 70's. The closest motel is a long way off.

That is what I liked about Lone Pine, small comunity, everybody knows everyone else, most people hate LA because of the Dry lake, and the other joke the pure bottled water from Mt Whitney. I know where the golf course is and have viewed the Whitney Portal. Don't know whey my sons friend will get back from Alaska , but when she does we will be heading up there.

Well will try this post again Dang Xanax and my other drugs the Psy has me on.

Wish I could drive that far right now. Lol. Can barley last going to Pismo Beach. Love the mountains up where you are. Barley keep myself from braining my 23 year old ADHS while helping him instal an Autozone 4.0 6c in his Jeep Cherokee rock Crawler. Awsome motor for #1200/3 year warrenty unlimited miles. Put the tranny in 5 times before I found out the torque converter wasn't all the way on the shaft. A no brainer for me not my son. LOL

Hopefully workman comp will release me in Aug and the Psy will lower the level of meds.

Been a bummer summer

U can pick it up cheap Brad.

I remembered seeing it in the latest HotRod Hardwear catalog.

There's 4 others for Famoso.

Go to Summit, hit the HotRod Hardwear icon, search Famoso.

There's also some good ones from Lions there.

Oh yea, saw the Hawaiian run, Snow, Gartlis in a front engined rail, the Ace along with everyone else.

@14, I worked in a gas station that sponsored a 3 car team. I was on the crew for 4 years. We had a 60 Pontiac (national record holder), a 59 Corvette and a Willys.
The the main strip was York US30 Dragaway. We were all over the east coast and went to Indy when it was the only nationals. Dick sold the Pontiac and bought one of the Bounty Hunters from Bob Banning Dodge.

And my cousin, Dave Strickler was pardners withe Bill Grumpy Jenkins, they put on the "Strickler/Jenkins Performance Clinics" at the tracks.

One hell of a way to grow up, we were at the track every weekend in the summer.

The Dodge Dick bought and One of my cousin Dave with Grumpy:
