Remember it? In the new May issue they put use two gas powered leaf blowers to feed the now carbed engine. Kind of sick, but it actually picks up about 25 HP.
There's also an article about two custom midyears by Brent Jarvis that is actually worth a look. |

I saw that Joe. The leaf blower thing was different but hard to hide those on a real C4. I can see it now just before the street race you are out pulling the ropes to get your blower going. The 2 C2's were wild. Maybe a few bucks in those with all the work on the frames and bodies. All it takes is money! |

I agree! I just got my issue in the mail today and read that article at lunch time. Those guys are crazy! It did work though.
Both of those Mid-years were awesome! I love the red one. |

Interesting about the leaf blowers. Maybe they should have used electric blowers with a dc/ac conversion box and run them off the battery.

got that issue and read it too....pretty crazy idea, and even though it is not really all that applicable in real life, I applaud them for just trying something funky like that....

They probably got the idea from these phony electric "superchargers" that have been around for years.

Interesting concept. However, they would suffer the same flaw that the cheap electric motors suffer from.
The blades crack and break. In a leaf blower, not a problem. The debris is evacuated with the outgoing airflow. Used as a turbo, those blade shards enter the engine's intake where it can cause harm. I have a leaf blower, used for a few years, and it's not one of those blower / vac units that doubles as a yard vac. The only thing ever to pass through this blower...is air. Yet, there are cracks and chunks missing from the blade. No way I would risk pushing those plastic shards into the intake at high velocity. I was at a car show where a kid had put a high powered 12V fan on his intake system as an electric turbo. It seemed to work great. It was well thought out and fabbed up nice. He did a couple passes on the road behind the show where they set up a quarter mile track. His last pass ended early. Seems a chunk came loose from the motor's blade and went right through the MAF. When he pulled the car back into the show grounds it sounded like a rock stuck in a vacuum cleaner as the plastic shard rattled around in the intake. Luckily it never made it into the chamber. He disassembled the intake system, found the damage to the MAF, and decided he would tow the car home until he could pull the intake and remove the debris. Scary. Goes to show you why 'real' turbos are expensive. Quality parts, precision machined, alloys designed to handle the pressure, stress, and temperatures. Plastic electric motor blades just don't cut it. |

Here's a discussion from '09 that pretty much debunks them.
