I just picked this up on smokinvette.com ----

"Last Sunday, cfi-efi passed on in his sleep. I am posting the notice here because it was where he posted and hung out. He was very knowledgeable about the crossfire and was always controversial. He will be missed."

I know Jim was also here with us on occassion and will be missed.

That's terrible.

This is very sad news indeed. Jim helped me so many times off forum when I was trying to figure out how to rebuild the top end of my motor. He never once grumped at me like he did some of the other CF posters. He was so helpful.... What a shame to lose another great friend to the Corvette Community.

I was always conflicted with Jim. So much knowledge, so little patience.

He had the facts, but the delivery was beyond unacceptable at times.

Rest in peace. We did lose a wealth of knowledge, regardless of his faults.

This is very sad for me to hear. Years back, Jim was part of a racing email ring with me and a few others.... I think we had exchanged a 1000 emails over the years. I got to know him a bit during that time.... he really wasn't abrasive at all once you got to know him.

He was a darn good bracket racer too.

He will be missed.

I was a fan.
What most don't know about him, was his willingness to devote a ton of his time and resources to help someone who was willing to dig in, figure it out, and get it done.
There is no doubt in my mind, he was a first class human being.
I share his lack of patience for those that are lazy.
Race-On!

I have heard that... but at the same time, you had to do things by HIS numbers. If you varied from that, he would just as easily disown you.

Not to begrudge the deceased, but he and I went around and around on things on more than one occasion. And I got to the point where I resented his twisting my words into little tight knots. I felt there were better things for one to do with their time than that.

What you say may be true, but he is gone now and in my mind should be forgiven for his shortcomings and remembered for the good things he did. Wouldn't you want the same?....WW

He "grumped" at me, but I didn't care - I learned a lot from him. There aren't many capable people out there who are deep in the early C4s.

It's been my experience that grumpy old bastards are great teachers. They have to like you. They still bitch you out and smack you around a bit but they smile after they do it.
It's nothing personal. It's a technique. Albeit not always a popular style. I notice that I carry some of this into my teaching the son and wife about something. Has to do with my impatients and their lack of understanding. The same holds true when my wife teaches me something about plants and the nursery. Always elevates the blood pressure a little. That's my take on it.

Our first encounter was a rough one, but I'm glad I did not let it end there, he helped me like many others. Very sad to lose someone with so much knowledge about the cars we love.

I guess I could never get past the style.

For me, I grew up with a parent way too much like him. As such, I told myself as an adult, I didn't need to take that shit, so I didn't.

My Mom, for all of her positives, was much like CFI. Very smart and short of patience. With a bend towards negative reinforcement.

Trust me, for all of his knowledge, I had issues getting past the delivery. He put me on the defensive and that isn't right. I should have taken a higher road, yes, but at the same time, why must I adjust for every strange personality?

I will not deny he helped a lot of people. And perhaps I could have learned more from him if not for my own issues.

I've seen his tact (or lack thereof) from both sides. I can say that either way he rubbed you, he was an asset to the C4 community.

As for people that use a thread about his passing as a means to throw jabs at the deceased or anyone else, that is truly tasteless from any angle.
