I need some help identifying a motor for my boss. He thinks it is a corvette motor. I have not seen it myself but here is the info I have...
3782870 is on the motor he thinks it could be a 327? Date code C273 (march 27, 1963?) on RF pad CO977R The other note I have I am not sure if this intake is on the motor or if it is seperate.. 3835580- note says 3 deuce I mainly deal with much newer cars so I am kinda lost here.. any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, -=Rick |

That is for sure a 327.
The only problem? AFAIK, GM NEVER put 3x2 on the SBC. They did use dual quads, but not a 6-pack. From what I have found on the web, I would have to agree with your assessment about the date code. The data on the RF pad is troubling me, I can't find references for anything. Are you sure you read it right? Is it all there? |

Yes on the first 2. The pad numbers are not right. For an intake number the 3835580 is not showing up either. 5590 is an intake for a 50 to 58 235 engine. In another place I see where the 5580 is on a 1953 235 engine. Weird!

Not sure.. I think it's some parts the boss has laying around at the other shop... when I get back from Tennessee maybe I will get a chance to look myself.. maybe the intake is not from this motor.. it might be laying seperate?? Thanks, -=Rick |

Someone needs to confirm, but I don't know of any factory installed tri-powers from GM.

I highly doubt that it's a Corvette motor, 378..... doesn't match any SBC Corvette in Noland Adams book (owners list with car serial # and block #). The 378 # is generally said to be 1962-65 production, 250-375 HP, car & truck so it could have come from almost any car/truck. But it is a 327. You may be right on the date code, Rick. The pad code is incomplete, there should be another letter after the "R". "R" codes were used in '63 & '64 on Corvettes but this block # doesn't match. No SCB came with 3-2's, only big blocks and 348/409. The part # doesn't show as a stock option. Check the pad # again when you can, it should look like this: Attach file: 2006-02-01 00-01-54_0004.JPG (0.00 KB) |

"C" doesn't sound like the right assembly plant either.

The intake I think might be something he has laying around thats not installed on the this motor, so it probably is a big block part.... I'll try to find out more when I have a chance...
