2011 Memorial Day Car Show Winner! Chesapeake Beach, Maryland 4543 Posts Member since: 2006/4/23 0:00	A good friend of mind is in France this week with the National Corvette Museum's 2011 Group Trip to Le Mans. Jon has been adding photos as he can to our Facebook Group Page as he can, but since that is a closed group on FB I am putting some of them here throughout the weekend so you guys can see some first hand (grass roots) photos. 2011 Memorial Day Car Show Winner! Chesapeake Beach, Maryland 4543 Posts Member since: 2006/4/23 0:00	I wanted to post that wreck right after it happened but I didn't want to be a SPOILER. The tire wall did what it was designed to do and kept that car from going over! It was totally airborne and just caught the tires which saved those photogs! I'm hoping Jon sends some more photos soon but i bet he won't be able to until he gets back to the hotel tonight.

Corvette #74 from the Corvette Corral. If you enlarge a bit you should see the leader light on the door. #74 has been the class leader on & off most of the day. Ron Fellows and his wife joined us tonight for dinner at the Corral. Corvette #74 at the World Famous Corvette Corner. When the camera shows the driver, steering wheel (or part of the wheel), shifter, shift lights, you get a much better idea of what's going on. Example, if the driver goes into a corner a little hot, you can see the corrections on the steering wheel. Even in normal cornering, does he have to saw at the wheel? Or is the steering input smooth and light (shows something of how the car is handling)? But at least, in-car does give you some sensation of the speed. Believe me, it looks way, way faster when you're actually in the car.

Grand Imperial Pooh-Bah San Pedro, CA 20859 Posts Member since: 2005/9/7 0:00	I remember watching LeMans some 25 years ago on ESPN. It wasn't all 24 hours then. Start and finish, IIRC. During this shot, we were in-car in the equivalent to a Camel Lights GT. It was doing about 200 down Mulsanne. Then he got passed by a Porsche 962 doing 240 MPH. Passed like he was sitting still. I will always remember that image!

I will always remember that image! OH yea. (the 962 is one of my favorite cars, Al Holbert) A lot of my racing has been in mixed groups. The last 25 hour endurance race I drove in was in a Spec Miata, the P1 car was a Rolex Daytona Prototype. It's damn scary hearing on the radio that that thing's coming up behind you....fast. All you can think is: Dude, don't hit me. When a downforce car goes by you at that speed differential, it damn near sucks all the air out of the driver's side window. Moves your car around quite a bit too, It's worse at night, you see headlights in the mirror that keep getting bigger and bigger.

What a cool kid! 25 years old from Virginia, drives an American Icon C6R in the lead position of his class in the last 2 hours of Le Mans. What an experience for a great young driver. I wish he could finish but there is less than an hour left now and they just changed drivers.

Grand Imperial Pooh-Bah San Pedro, CA 20859 Posts Member since: 2005/9/7 0:00	Corvette 1st in GTE Pro, 1st in GTE Am. The GTE Am is designed for year old customer cars. Way trick idea, really. Congrats to Robertson Racing Ford GT for a podium in GTE Am! A few other observations: It was COLD... at sun up, about 8C (50F). Damp and drizzly which I am sure made for most of the spins. Did anyone see the 3 minute Audi ad with Alan McNish? If not: Absolutely fascinating. Ferrari 458 has a way to go before it is reliable. Many clutch/gearbox issues. BMW was a victim of bad luck, vs anything of their doing. I am betting they feel rather snakebit right now. Congrats to the team engineer of the #2 Audi, Leena Gade. She is the first female engineer to win the 24 Hours!!! That's it... I will have more thoughts later!
