In the process of re-building a Q-Jet, found one of the lead plugs in the body loose. It's not the bigger ones under the metering rods, it's a small 5/32 plug.
Anybody ever replace these? Thought about using JB Weld, not sure if this would hold up being in gas constantly. Could drill & tap to use a screw to seal with? Or some high lead content solder?
Any ideas?

Thanks
Joel

Thanks Bill,
Seems like JB Weld is what people use around the plugs for a little insurance. I might tap the hole and then use JB around the threads. Or just use the JB.

I'd upgrade to the Waterweld but, the only real experience I have with regular JB is with brake fluid (pressure bleeder) and it started to fail after 2 years.

Look here for suggestions:

http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/leaking-quadrajet-138013.html

Apparently epoxy is what they used when built.

JB weld will fail after heat cycles.

One person says drill and tap it, another says use permatex repair stick.

Just a few things to consider.

OK, just a quick update. I decided to tap the hole and use a 10-32 screw. I "wrapped" the threads with the Waterweld from JB Weld, this was the first time using this particular epoxy. It is NOT user friendly trying to finese around a small screw. It would be great for a larger hole.
Carb is back on and running very nice as of right now.
I'll do another update in a few years on the sealer on how good it stands up to gas!

Thanks for the replies!
