2002 C5 Coupe. This morning I was out for a drive and went to turn on the turn signal and it quit working so I messed with it and turned on the 4 ways and they worked and then the turn indicators did work for awhile. Not working again now.

I am thinking the flasher is bad so ordered the part and now find out you have to tear the whole dash pad off to get to the stupid flasher. Anyone know an easier way? Cost to have the shop do it is 250 to 300 dollars. Come on man, that's terrible. Thanks

C5? I don't have the service manual with me... it's on disc on my desktop.

It could be that bad, but I would wait for others to chime in.

It doesn't surprise that it is in the dash, the early C4s was there.

Yup, try pushing the hazard button on and off about 20 times. Seems to clean the contacts on them.

The C5 window motors seem to be the same way. If you don't operate the windows for several months the motors stick. Then you have to take the door panels off and rap on the motor and they start working again. Pretty odd stuff.

I think I found the answer to the turn signal problems I and others are having with our C5's. The contacts on the flashers get corroded after awhile and I was having to push the 4 way button in and out about 20 times then the turn signals would work. Doing that gets to be a drag and then the signals will quit on you just when you need them.

After exhaustive research into the matter in a thread from I don't know where, there was a link to a Flasher Bypass Harness that is designed to take care of Hyperflash (problems with running LED lights) and also fixes the turn signal problem.

I called them and they sent me out a kit and some instructions and I installed it and so far my turn signals are working fine.

The original flasher unit still operates the four ways and when it fails all together then it will need changed and that is a big job. Either the whole dash comes off or you take out the radio and try to work at it from that angle.

Here are some pics.....

This is what it looks like...

Good color instructions....

You have to take the lower panel cover off which include the trunk/hatchback switch and the A/C sensor cover....

After you get the cover off, which is a little tricky, you just plug this in to the exsisting flasher harness coupling.

It works!

These are listed in several catalogs I have but are for hyperflash and say nothing about the turn signal issue. Corvette Central and Ecklers. I bought mine from a place called Corvette Enhancements out in California. They were all listed at the same price. $70 plus shipping.

Total of 4 #15 Torx screws and about a half hour. I had more trouble fiddling with the lower cover than anything else.

Wow, that is a ridiculous ordeal for something that should be simple. Maybe whoever designed the opti had a hand in the flasher as well.

I'll bet that would work for my Bonneville too. Left blinker quit working, so I took it in and it was the same thing as the the Corvette issue. I wish I had known that the circuitry was the same. I probably could have fixed it myself. At least on the Bonneville the switch is easy to get to ($170 total at a repair place).

If I start to have problems, I'll be getting a hold of you, Marcus.
