I am on a learning curve with the C5. I know that there are 2 fuel tanks in a C5. I know that the passenger side pumps into the drivers side which supplies the engine.

My question is does the DIC let you know if the auxillery pump quits pumping into the main tank? Or does the fuel quage just go down real fast? If the other one fails you are one the side of the road. The pumps are stupidly expensive. Five humdred and some for the main pump and 7 hundred for the other one.......comeon man!

I can buy a bunch of C4 pumps for that kind of money.....

My neighbor has two '02 Z06's, and mentioned the fuel tanks last week. He had said the main problem was the line between them would corrode with sitting fuel. However the entire line system had to be replaced.

Related in a way. I thought the 928 dual fuel pump set up was expensive at around $600 for both. Holy Guacamole. Over $1200 ...... You gotta be shaving creaming me.

A good friend of mine is an ASE Certified Tech, owns his own shop. He also has 2 C5s (a '98 and a '02 Z06). His advice to me was to try not to run the fuel level below 1/4 tank for long periods or often. Seems the biggest enemy of the pumps is heat, and keeping them submerged keeps them cool. Anyway, I've not had any problems, and of the many C5 owners in our club, I don't recall any of them having issues with the fuel system either. If I hear any different, I'll post it.

Thanks John, with pumps of any kind it seems to me like it's when not if the thing is going to quit. Lingenfelter says that the pump sits in a lower area of the tank that always has fuel in it to keep the pump emersed in fuel and thus cooler. I have always tried to run anything we have with adequate levels of fuel just for that purpose.

Back it the early 90's we had acouple of vehicles go down on the road with bad fuel pumps. I am sure things have gotten a lot better since then. They are still stupidly expensive.
