My C5 is making noises in the engine bay when I first start it up. I have deduced that it is piston slap. It goes away when the engine warms up. I did some research on it but never did come to any conclusions. I am not worried about it only curious what causes it. What info does the Guru have?

Pistons are oval shaped when cold, round when hot.

Why do you think it's slap? Just curious.

There was a period of time in there when the LS1 had a very bad piston slap problem.

Work through all the hyperbole and somewhere in there lies the truth to the problem.

I have a 99 5.3 pickup that does the same thing. It does go away after engine warms and there is no other problems with the car. I read some other stuff online but you think by now they would have it nailed down.
