Back in the 60s we used to pull the front bumpers off for the gasser look. If it was not a big block car many owners would install a big block hood. A Hurst shifter was a must as was a big, chrome Sun tachometer. The stock wheels had to go and were replaced by Torque Thrusts, Ansen slotted mags or Crager SS chromies. Then the rear wheels would get radiused and flared so the fat rear tires would fit. Glass pack mufflers and headers gave you that muscular sound although many Vettes ended up with side pipes. It was common to remove the split from the 63 coupe and replace the 2 small rear windows with a single piece unit.

Bill has a C2, but once done will be restored back to factory....

I think several of our members out there *used* to own a C2...but back in the day it was just another corvette!

I think BillH is kind of old school, not sure about his C2.

Bad photo but has all the things like 427 hood and flaired wheel wells. This had sidepipes and a 350 hp 327 4 speed. It seemed like they were all 4 speeds back then. No front bumpers of course.

This was my first Vette! Loved this car, me and it had great adventures and epic road trips. I had done a few mods to it but this was the way it was for years. Notice the flower power decals covering the holes for the front bumpers.......ahhhhh cool or at least I thought it was back then........It had Thrush glass packs and sounded real good.

Yea, you described my first Vette almost to the 'T'. All but the custom wheels, I went for Chevy rally's.

I was just playin' with C2 #5 this morning.

Yea, Ron, we modded back then. I even pulled the hood inserts out of my 63 and filled the spaces in with glass. Sidepipes of course on the 63.

The 67's going pure stock because it's matching numbers.

If I has the bucks, my nest project would be a 67 vert, tubeframe w/C5 suspension.

You're always supposed to keep one C2.

Ya Bill, letting that go was tough but the money bought stuff that helped get my business going.

I am also looking hard at the Downs Ind. 67 Vette rollers that they make. I am thinking roadster also. I am trying to get an idea of total cost with a LS3 and 6 speed in it. If its too ridicules then it won't happen but it interests me.

I'd love to have another C2, I'll have to hit it big in the lottery though, as I can't afford one any other way.

Certainly more than a restored smallblock. Best bet would be to buy a wrecked C5. Then you have to find a NON C2 at a reasonable cost (that has a good birdcage). And on and on.

If you could do it for $50k, I'd be supprised.

Here is the stuff I have been looking at. A 67 roller with tube frame C4 suspension and C5 brakes with wheels and brakes plumbed is 35K. You can get either a Roadster or a Coupe. IRS from a C4 or a 9" Ford for a drag racer. You have to take it from there as to how much you want to spend to get it to what you want it to be.........let the dreams begin.....

http://www.hitekhotrods.com/corvette.html

The bodies are made by Downs Industries and do not include the headlight buckets. Cool stuff, I think if you start with a roller you could have a really nasty C2 clone for 50K maybe 60 if you are going with a new LS7. LS3 would be a lot cheaper. A lot depends on how much work you do yourself.....

No pics there yet except the body. I'd have to see the suspension system.

$35k + $5k interior + $5k min. paint + $5k-motor & trans + wiring, + headlight housing package -$1,300 , headlight motors $750, wheels & tires $3k + exhaust $2k, bumpers if front & rear $2.5k , rocker mouldings, tail lights grill - $1,500

There's a 2009 Z06 with 29k miles here for $48k.

As long as the rod shop can guarantee the title in your state, you're OK

If I was gonna build one, I'd go with SR III.
