Black paint, geeze.

Right now, I'm using GM Restoration paint, the same that's on the frame. Shooting it with a trim (doorjam) gun.

I may shoot everything again including the frame with urethane, still undecided. But I had the GM sitting on the shelf.

The GM is almost identical to the origional asphalt based factory paint.

if I was doing such a resto, I would either powder coat or POR15 that stuff...

Sure looks purdy.

A lot of guys are using Eastwood Chassis Black.

PC's OK for resto-mod but, it's just more bucks that I need for parts. POR's good too.

Right now, I just wanted some paint on the bare metal.
Repainting's easy compared to prep.

One thing I do know about black powdercoat, repeated washing and wiping down will dull black PC and it doesn't polish very well.

My racecar frame's done with PC - Big Mistake.

Nope, but I want a car exactly like it sat in a dealership showroom.
Mostly because I have all the little correct parts. And because I find the factory build interesting.

Well, I'd be daft to try and keep up with you.

Unfortunately this stuff is going to start costing big bucks soon and that'll slow things down a bit.

But there's enough to work on this winter to keep me out of the casinos.......mostly.

The way the cars were built at the plants.
I've always found factorys really interesting and have been in 100s of them when I was working. Just the way things get put together/made like a sheet of plate glass at PPG that's 12 feet widw and 1/4 mile long or being on the production floor at Mallory or IGT (slot machines).

Anyway, things like going to the early NCRS meetings and looking at the difference between small block and 427 battery cables was interesting to me or things like AO Smith never built a big block body because they never had the 427 hoods, etc.

Noland Adam's book (Noland was at the Sacramento meet last Saturday,BTW) shows 100s of pics on the Corvette factory floor from bare frames to the way the bodys were pulled out of the molds, etc. And describes many of the changes that happened even during a specific year's build. Example - early '67's vs late '67's.

I enjoy this crap.

I have that same book sitting next to me. I love the pics of the cars on the lines. Makes you wish you could have been there. I used it a lot when I did my 63 way back in 89.

I envy you and your project, keep us posted.

Thanks Marcus, I love the book for what it is and look at it often. But don't use it much for the restoration because specific things are really hard to find in it and I have many other books to check stuff in.

Very nice, Bill!

Lots of familiar stuff there. How difficult is it to remove the trailing arms and differential crossmember from a C2? I know mine weren't exactly a walk in the park.

How far are you actually along with the restoration. Do you have a target date for completion?
Just curious.

No problems with them but, the body was off the frame so it was way easier.
The real bitch is rebuilding the trailing arms, probably the most time consuming part on the car. The only stuff that is more of a PIA is bodywork.

No target date, Joe - lack of funds.

I do have a lot done.
Frame's done except foe stencil's & marking.
Suspension components & brackets are painted, trailing arms need parts and assy.
90% of the bodywork is done.
4-speed needs rebuilt - $200 in parts.
Hopefully the rear end just needs cleaned up, I haven't inspected it yet.
Motor needs done with a lot of prep on the parts before i can start the build.
There's a boatload to do yet, a big boat.
Heck, just the chrome and cad plating's going to run $2k.

Havin' fun though.
I'm not in a hurry.
