Hey guys I need volunteers for help making some parts for my 1977 Vette intake system project.

I'm not looking for free labor or handouts but I am on a budget and not looking to take out a loan to get these made.

Basically, I need a pair of these collectors:

Stainless, and simple. Two tubes will come in and be coupled to this, and a filter is going on the 3" end.

I'll obviously pay either by check or Paypal, for both materials and your labor. Just let me know if you can do it, if you want to do it, and we'll take it to email or PM.

Thanks.

If nothing else, call McJacks Corvette in Santa Ana, CA. They weld up headers in house and this strikes me as something they could easily make. Ask for Jack and tell him I sent you.

I've called a few shops and found a few places online that weld these collectors. The prices are ranging between $80 and $120 each, and I think that is stupid. I don't see why, even with materials and labor, this would cost more than $25 - $35 each.

I'll call Jack and see what he says. Thanks Andy.

Unfortunately, you need a TIG to do those right.

And the cuts on the tubing can't be made with a tubing jigger (using a hole saw). So, there a bunch of fitting/grinding to do. The welding's fairly easy.

I can easily see an hour's labor there, maybe more. Just my Opin.

I agree, sometimes things that look quick simple and cheap to make, take some time to fab up, skills, tools, time all cost money... Especially if you want a quality job..

The more I look at this , the more I think it wouldn't be that easy. Where the 2 - 2 in tubes go into the 3 in piece, there's going to be big gaps to fill in either by heating the 3 in and hammering it down to conform to the 2 in pieces or making up small pieces and welding them in.

If you had more length to work with:

Hey thanks for the response, sorry it's late but I didn't get back online last night with all the American Chopper build off stuff going on.

Anyway, wall thickness is whatever is convenient. Thinner the better though. It's not a weight bearing component so structurally it does not need to be stout.

The inside between pipe distance needs to be wide enough for each 2" inlet to accept a silicon coupler, I think they range but are usually not much thicker than 1/8".

I think leave a hair more than .25" between the 2" outlets and everything will be fine.

The length of the body itself is not important, in fact, whatever makes it easier to make.

Thanks,

Matt
