I have a '98 Corvette convertible with 31000 miles. I have no records of any transmission service (fluid change) which I really didn't expect to have with the low milage. It is an automatic trans.
With 13 years of age I believe it should be changed.

I was told by an authorized GM dealer that the fluid should be totally "pumped out" of the trans, an not just the pan dropped.

Anyone with this experience that can direct me to the right process?

Thanks,
Mayoman

Yes I actually own a flush machine myself. I would reccomend flushing it based on age and mileage. Are you planning to work on it yourself or have a shop/dealer perform the work? if you are doing it yourself, you can do a pan off service and get most of it, some people try to do flush by removing a trans cooler line and letting it pump out while filling the trans, however it can be messy, and difficult with only 1 person. and you run the risk of dry running the pump.

Looks like this is in the wrong section but I'm sure a mod can move this post for you..

I agree that it's time to change out the fluid. My car had 83K when I bought it and it is one of the first things I did.

I had mine done for me at a shop I trust and they first hooked up to it and pumped out the old stuff replacing it with the new. After that was done they dropped the pan and replaced the filter and whatever else they check on while in there. Then they pumped in what they lost while the pan was off and it's ready to go.

Sometimes it's the years not the milage.......

Welcome to the Guru.....hope you hang out, we can always use a few more C5 guys......
