It's nothing wild just some stuff I did to make it look nicer in my opinion......

I did a lot of looking at different induction systems and studying where the air flows into the engine bay. I ended up punching some holes into the stock air cleaner (sorry no pics) painting it to match and putting in a new paper filter. Then I drilled some holes down where the fog lights mount to get some air into the engine room.....for my kinda driving I'm thinking it's all good....

They wanted $129 for some covers with some slots punched in them sooooo I punched my own......I kinda like the look. I had the car out and it seems that the engine is running a bit cooler......I don't know why.....

if nothing else, it's subtle and clean. I don't get into this air brushed and painted with eagles and stuff... it just gets all heavy handed.

Clean. Functional. Easy to fix. That's what matters!

As for the holes, great idea! I would consider cutting the area out and adding some steel mesh to protect it. The polished steel would look nice, too. C6's have some precut for similar applications.

Thanks Andy! I am with you on the overdone engine bay deal. This is a road car not a show car but to me the engine should have a look.....Z06 engine covers.....

Function over form on the holes....I had planned to use the screens to cover them up if I did not like them. They make them for the C5's also. I'm thinking Joe would have done a perfect job of drilling them...

You can't see them that much because they are very low and I don't see why GM did not open them up from the factory......

You can get mesh in stainless steel from the race catalogs, no rust worries.

Let me get this straight. You drilled and punched holes in a perfectly good stock Vette.

I'm wondering if you can rub in some Back to Black in the engine bay. I think it would give it some highlights. Just not sure of the temp interaction. I've got some other detail product I picked up from my upholsterer. This stuff says you can mist it in the engine bay. I had some good results with it. All it is is a vinyl/leather product that restores luster. I don't see why Back to Black wouldn't work. It bakes in the open sun so I think it would do fine in engine bay apps. You may want something like that for next month.. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, You know what I mean?

Looks good, Marcus! Although I disagree with Andy slightly, I have seen some really nice "realistic" flame covers that look good.

Looks good Marcus. I've thought about painting my covers Mag Red. As far as the engine bay and what to treat it with, Adams VRT (Vinyl, Rubber, Tires) and/or "In and Out Spray". Wonderful products....

I'd spray down your engine bay with ArmorAll for $40.
