You guys may have seen me post here already.
I have a 59' that was altered due to the previous owner looking to turn it into a dragster. So i am rebuilding the car back to original, well almost.

I am graphting in a 90' C4 front and rear suspension but need a few measurements if some one can help me out.

I need to know what the ride height of the following:
1) The bottom of the body at the door to the floor.
2) The distance between the top of the tire and the fender
lip.
3) And the disctance from the fender lip to the floor.

Thanks guys, appreciate the help.

do you need these measurements in reference to the C1 or the C4?

Let me give you a warning/caveat before I type of the numbers. Almost all C4s have slight variations in the ride height, even the same C4 can vary from one side to the other.

That being said, I measured my 89 which is the same suspension as the 90:

1) I took the measurement from the jacking point (lowest "body" point) near the front wheel. It was 6" exactly.

2) Top of the tire to the fender - do you mean inside the fender well or the fender lip? I took top of the tire to the fender lip, which was approximately 3 1/2". This isn't super accurate. I also measured the center of the rim to the fender lip and it was 16".

3) Fender lip (top of arch) to floor (front wheel) was 27 3/4".

Hope this helps,

Matthew

1, Yea like a half inch+.

2. This dosn't mean much unless you know what size the tires are.

Ride height, from the floor to the bottom of the frame, yea, that's inportant.

Hi guys, thanks for the input.

I actually need the numbers off the C1 Corvette. I need to make sure that when the wheel is turned and may bounce, it doesn't hit the fender.

that would be a problem with an older car and wider tires.

I am not sure how to help resolve that... even with the measurements.

Do you have a copy of the 1959 body assembly manual? That would have the info you want.

I can try to get you in touch with a guy who is a C1 expert. Unfortunately not on our board. Let me know and I'll reach out to him.

Matatk, I would appreciate any contact info from any expert.

Bogus, I have an assembly manual but not well written or coppied. It appears that 53 years ago they didn't keep the records like we do now lol.

Thanks guys.

Matt, yours sure sits a lot higher than mine. I know I am lowered, but still a bit surprised at the differences.

CLI - I dropped a line to the guy I mentioned. I'll let you know when he responds.

Andy - as far as I know, the suspension is unmolested and it has stock size 17" wheels. I don't want to lower it, too many potholes and bad roads around here.

CLI - I got in touch with Brett, and unfortunately he couldn't register today due to a software glitch, but he passed along this information:

Quote:
Anyway, he needs to get the literature from Paul Newman Car Creations. Their pics will show what he needs. As long as the front suspension is centered, he'll be ok as long as he mounts the K member as Newman did it.

Hope this helps,

Matthew

Having already converted a C1 frame to C4 suspension, I would suggest contacting Newman Car Creations and ask for their literature. They have excellent pictures for reference. They use the K member and replace the front few feet of the frame. Excellent work.

I had spoken to Car Creations and the lady asked for me to email her my questions.

But if some one can just let me know what the distance is between the top of the tire to the fender lip, on a C1 corvette.

That would be a great help, thanks guys!!
