Nope when you forget the fitting the line you spent hours to get it right is junk start all over again Ya it get you mad.

With any luck it will be time to go home for the Day LOL.

We have a CNC tube bender it good if you'r making bunch of the same lines or you have a titanium line you can't bend with the manual tubing rack bender.

But setting up the CNC bender is a pain in the you know where.

Visual inspection of the lines show our timing on starting this progress was perfect.. One of the lines had been rubbing on the hole under the airconditioning pump. Another of the line was showing signs of heat rott.

Something I didn't talk about was the smell from the old fule filter. The gas going in to it smelled fine. The gas coming out smelled like it sat in an old abandoned vehicle for a couple of years. Not a good sign. Last year when I had someone work on it I paid for a new filter. Low it looks like I got the filter and it went in someones else car.

Well broke my golden rule when working on my vehicles don't drink. Was going out to measure the legnth of hoses from fule rail to the fule filter and return line and wamo. We put the fittings in the fule rail. I forgot whether the fule filter line is on the passanger side ore the driver side. My son I hope remembers or back to pulling fittings off before cutting the SS fule lines. LOL

fuel filter is on the passengers side rail.

This could also be a good chance to find a better - more maintenance friendly - location... or even part!

This of something trick like this, which could be mounted up on the frame rail somewhere... far away from the heat of the exhaust!

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/AEI-12308/?rtype=10

Just an idea.

Also, when you get the SS line, get the teflon core. It will hold up a lot better than rubber core.

I like that idea Andy. For now we will hook it up the old way and when I order more parts I will look while it's up on the lift and continue this transformation. I hate the cat being so close. Easter vacation I have a week off will try this idea then.

Great minds think alike You and Marvin are pretty sharp.

I've seen on some modified fuel line setups where the filter was moved to the area of the blower housing along the firewall. Makes changing it much easier.

Also, did you run the new lines all the way back to the fuel tank?

Like I said before at least if starts leaking again ever you can see it not under the AC pump where you cant.

Dont change them to SS Hose unless the hard lines are bad.

If they are bad put hard lines back in.

Couple of minor problems so far. Lines rubbing in two spots. One on the underside of the hood. Put painters tape so when I get home from work tomorrow I can tell if that is the spot. There were some new markes in the area from the body shop this may be one of them. The other is on the silver bracket on the airconditioning pump. Very minor. Son bring rubber over Sat. He had all the crap vehicles at his house.

The other problem has happened twice now. After driving for several days (running great) I stop at COSCO to get gas . Truck is filling tanks. I go to open the cap and the cape is not screwed on. I fill the tank, try to start the engine and it acts like it has no gas. Crank it again starts to go almost dies I give it gas works fine till tonight. Leaving for the Gym it does the same thing. I do the same process and it runs fine. I either got crap fom the COSCO gas or the extra filter is causing a problem. Just a guess.

bogus wrote:
That is the return line, if it does get blocked, problems will ensue... things like bursting lines and such. It will keep throwing pressure and eventually, something will burst. It will not go back from whence it came.[quote]

All lines are fine nothing kinked. Will change filter sat.

Replacement element is AC Delco # GF157.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ACF-GF157/

Any idea if the Fram cg20dp or NAPA fil327 will fit?

Pain in the butt finding AC delco Filter here in town Marvin. Car Quest had a bunch of them. Sat time to replace.

How are you holding up Brad? Take it easy working on that car. Will be warming up in the Lone Pine area this week end.

You can wrap some old radiator hose or fuel line around the rubbing areas.

As far as your starting problems, you need to do a fuel pressure and leakdown test.

Stealing a hose off one of my son's wrecked jeeps. Will be changing filter tomorrow morning. Test it for a week and if needed preform the test you suggested. The fule filter on the return line acording to the service may be the one installed years ago. The other fuel filter was changer every two years.

Funny I didn't know that 87 vetts had two fuel filters.

I fixed a leaky exhaust with a cut up soda can and a couple of clamps... lasted them until they could get the pipe fixed right... which ended up being about 6 months before they junked the car. I was a little sad, really. It was a mid-70s Mercury Capri. Liked those little things. best car ford had in that seriously tragic era.

My son and I were just talking about if harbor freight has one. When they open up this morning I will be the first in line.

If that does't work I will remove the whole unit put it in a vice and gently beat it to death with a big hammer.

Drill a hole thru it and stick a big ass phillips screwdriver thru the holes - leverage.

I thought that was an oil filter wrench. Being a red neck. Didn't think about it being universal.

Steve

I used it to open a pickle jar once.

You must of been hungry. Were you cooking the rest of your meal on the manifold at the same time?

Thanks Bill the Harbor Freights Strap Wrench on sale for $4.99 worked great. The o-ring was rotted and the filter was totally clogged. Who knows how many years this one has been on there. I used anti-size on the o-ring and threads. No leaks motor fired right up. Going to wash up and go for a test ride.

Went for the test drive and it just keep getting better. Before between 4500-5000 there was a little hesatitation but that is gone. Toke it out on Taft Hwy passing Carrot trucks (Bunny Luv) 2nd -4th flying.

Thanks to all Marvin, Vetteoz (from Down Under), Bill, Brad and everyone else on the Guru chat.

Marvin if you go to Willow springs would love to come out and watch.
Next weekend here is Famosa Drags 1st-4th. Looking for tools and parts.

Don't you love it when you stomp on the gas throws your head back and you sink into the seat. Lol

While browsing the Swaps at the Famosa drags today I found one of these filter and asked the guy what type of wrench was used to take the filter loose. He showed me the wrench in the picture. He sent me up to one of the parts venders and they sold me this for $6

It is ajustable not like the one Harbor freight has.It has teeth on it that fit the pattern on the end of the filter. Will try it next time I change my filter.

We had a little problem with the motor being starved for fuel 1-3 times a week> Checked everything out fule pump, strainer, fule pressure reg.

Works great after the long trip to the beach. When I changed lines and the last filter must have gotten some juck in the line.

Marvin idea on the lines is great.

Thanks

It sounds like your car sat a lot, that does explain some of these freaky problems your having.

As a racer that has dealt with braided lines all my life, I want to let you know that if you let those lines sit on anything unsecured or rub on anything they will cut thru it like a saw eventually.

When I run braided lines over stuff (like your accy bracket and heater hose) I take clear flexible PCV tubing - cut it length wise (think hot dog bun) and wrap it around the braided lines so it won't chaff anything.

You can buy it at fish tank supply stores or Lowes sometimes.

You can use regular black rubber hose as well, but the clear PVC tubing looks better.

Marv02 (Marvin) went in to great detail on making sure nothing is in contact so nothing will cut through. Thanks for the advice.
