Yea, on the old solenoid, the inboard small terminal is marked "S" (solenoid obviously). The wire that connects to that should be purple (I'm using the 67 diagram but they should be the same). That wire comes from the ign. switch thru a fuseable link. The "R" terminal is connected directly to the coil + which is kinda strange because the coil + also is connected to the ballast resistor with another wire. Power may be needed for that particular solenoid to function but (as you know) there's also the direct battery connection on the large post. Anyway, I'd verify the purple wire gets hot when you turn the switch to "start". Connect that one to the solenoid on the new starter (this is how I wire the Tilton Hi Torque starters in the racecars, just the large batt. cable and the solenoid/start wire). See if the car will run with the "R" wire disconnected. I think that is an 18 ga. pink. If the car runs OK, disconnect that pink wire from the coil and save it. I might ask what that wire function is on the NCRS forum.
