I am doing some slight changes to the car this winter. Going back to the 3-way passives and new 4" speakers to see if that fixes the speaker issue.

BUT I want to move the amps to the back wall..

any suggestions:

What speaker issues?

I'm a fan of back wall mounting. I think it creates more usable space without affecting case cooling.

Here's how my system looks in my C3, though I have loomed the wiring better since the pic was taken. Much smaller space but it works out great.

I actually think the wall mount helps heat... it raises the heat sinks and forces heat up, as it naturally goes.

With 2 amps, you may need a double layer wall rack, but it now comes down to space.

Durango Boy.. The pair of 4" speakers I have currently had issues when I bought them for $25. I am replacing them since I am able to for a reasonable price, I did not expect them to last as I was told upfront they had issues.

Bogus, by double layer do you mean stacked forward form the wall? I was thinking they will fit like they are now just on the wall.. I was going to build out 1" to had a spot for wiring.

What is the best way to mount on the wall?

Being that my back wall has close to 3" clearance between it and the gas tank, I just used bolts with huge washers to mount a carpet covered board and then the amps just screw to the board normally using screws.

With the amount of space I had I was able to start the bolts on the inside, and reach up from behind between the tank and the back wall and get the washers and nuts on and tightened. Friction held the interior side of the fasteners until it was torqued down good and tight.

The amp mounting board is just a 5/8" thick piece of plywood cut to fit the back wall, so I had plenty of configurations without having to overrun the borders of the board.

If you're looking to hide wiring behind the board, just space it away from the wall using plastic or aluminum bushings.

I guess it all depends on your access to the back of that wall. If access is limited, well nuts that expand on the back side like rivets might work great and then you don't need access to the back. Just measure and drill your pattern on the board. Transfer that to the wall, verify measurements and drill the wall and set fasteners.

Set and mark your wiring ports for cutting, carpet the board, and you're ready to put it all together.

yeah I don't have the space luxury behind the wall. I was thinking I could possibly utilize the current studs on the top that hold the carpet. I could put a couple of brackets there to come forward for mounting the rack. Also due to the shape of the complete back wall, the sides by the speakers will but stepped in order to fit it correctly.

I will use screws from the back side and use them as studs to hold the amps as I have them today. in the center I will have the RCAs run up a 'tunnel' to get the the connections of the amps. hopefully I can do the same for the speaker wires and the power.

I would need to make a 'lid' of sorts to cover the gap at the top but also could offer access.

I think once I pull it apart I will figure something out, I meant to do this last year but never got to it.. I am going to do it this year though

So I started on some of the changes by beginning with the front..

I had purchased a set of front speaker boxes made by a member on CF.. I bought them in August... finally got them in Oct and I am just now getting to installing them.

I will get a picture of the untouched box, but here is the front 1/2 of the box with the speaker holes cut and it painted

Resized Image

Here is with Speakers installed:
Resized Image

Installed with the OEM grill cover removed to check for clearance
Resized Image

here is a spare grill to be sure speakers are not blocked
Resized Image

I was thinking of cutting the speaker grill area out of the OEM cover to expose the box with speakers and then wrap the carpet back.. so the trianglar spot would be open. ho that makes sense

that looks nice... but I have my 6" drivers outside the box entirely, and the 4" and tweets in the doors.

I know..

Going this route first.. keeps the layout I have. I did get a second set of these boxes to try and fit a 6.5 speaker in

So what are you thoughts on the grill?

That cover should be acoustically neutral. Is there an audible difference?

oh, yea... I like that. Clean, open, but I would still run some kind of stiff cover - perhaps a metal grill?

I had metal grills over my 4" mids, and then to make them look nice, covered them in grill cloth... When I converted over to the Jag speaker grills, I was floored as to how much more brightness I gained by losing those cloth covered grills.

Yes that will be a metal mesh grill. I found a place that sells flat pieces in size that will work.

Planning on ordering the metal mesh for the front this week

I did tackle the Rear though..

after 2 hours of cutting the old rack to make it fit, I came up with this:

Amps sitting on the rack:

I need to see if I have enough carpet for that and the floor I need to make in front of it. I also need to buy some 8 ga power wire too

because it is a 94-96 panel which wraps around to the pass side, while the 90 has the 'wall/divider' so it is a custom mod..
