The engine is in... tomorrow, wiring, plumbing things like that.

Tuesday, clutch, trans exhaust... and then drive, baby, DRIVE!

I sure hope the thing runs and doesn't leak... sigh...

Good luck with that! Sounds like you got some good wrench-time in. I did too!

Lemme know if you need someone to armchair quarterback. Maybe I'll stop by afterwork to critique the workmanship.

Q: How many engineers does it take to fire a C4 motor?

A: Good question, they are still having a pre-meeting to decide.

All I will be doing tonight is plumbing and electrical. I hope to be done in about 90 minutes. Stop by about 6 if you want.

I got the hard part done... the power steering line is now in and some of the other hoses and such.

I had to sort out bolts and such, so it took longer than expected.

the latest... my biggest bitch is that things keep vanishing.

So far, I have lost the top part of the forward beam plate and one of the rear c-beam bolts... you know, the 8" long mother? Gone. Vanished.

I had a real screwup yesterday... I installed the accessory bracket to the WRONG bolt on the block. Had to remove the bracket, which was nearly full, and then put it back where it belongs... annoying...

today I got a new set of MSD wires assembled. They are much easier to make than the Taylors and have better ends.

Also, all of the accessory drive and bracing are in place.

the missing parts found themselves...

The bolt? snagged up in a clump of grass near the right rear tire. The grass had grown up in the cracks.

The beam plate? Jammed up on the top side of the transmission.

So... that is most EXCELLENT news!!!

Next, I got the trans out of the way, the driveshaft off and the flywheel on.

I also got the return line to the PS cooler on.

Getting there, still aiming for tomorrow.

I just got a new trans jack from HF, #4075.

read my review here:
http://www.corvetteguruforum.com/modu ... p?topic_id=18024&forum=61

However, a few tricks for use with a C4:

1. There are 4 tabs that are used to stablize the gearbox on the platform. Remove them.

2. You have to drain the gearbox anyway, leave the drain OUT. It will allow the trans to sit on the tray more evenly.

3. Use only the chain and tighten.

I learned that the jack is strong enough to life the car OFF the jack stands. It helps a ton with aligning the c-beam.

Also learned that using a floor jack on the rear diff helps swing the diff around so that it will align with the c-beam that much easier.

This also means that the c-beam, trans and driveshaft are IN. Tomorrow, exhaust and final bolt tightening! I will be back on the road!!!

Whoo-hoo!!!

Ok... here we are... last night... 9:10pm... it sorta started. kinda rumbled... kinda stumbled... but it did start.

not enough in the battery to keep it running, so a quick charge is in order, some last minute wiring, check all connectors and hang the exhaust, we should be good to go!

Keep you all posted!

it's raining. can't solder. Can't charge batteries in the rain (car is outside).

It cranks, but no fire. I am pretty sure my idea of using the rocker cover bolts as ground sucks. So moving them to the manifold.

As soon as the rain stops. If the rain clears, I will head out and move the grounds and retest.

I am using the LTCC conversion - uses LSx coils and the Opti simply becomes an optical pickup. However, the coils and the LTCC require a REALLY good ground.

I thought, yea, let's use the rocker cover bolts, under the coil brackets. Well, hindsight is 20/20 but rather myopic when you forget it didn't work 9 years ago!!! So time to mount the grounds to the intake manifold.

Just a thought here on grounds. Are your heads alum.? If so then, grounding thru a alum intake base and alum heads might not give the proper ground you need. Just wanted to mention this.

I have found going to the aluminum intake seems to work ok. I may run longer grounds to the block or something.

But the intake does work.

Agree with the heads issue... composite rocker covers, with rubber gaskets, even with a steel bolt, may not provide a good ground. Then again, steel isn't the best for wiring.

Umm, the ground for the stock coil is right there on the block.....has it's own dedicated little bolt.

I am going to use that, but the pig tails are short... so they need to grow a bit.
