I know you guys remember the 385 LTX I built for 93 ragtop. We got quite a bit of hate PM's and some folks on the CF outright calling me a fibber about how much power it put down on the dyno...

Well we took the car to MIR today for the test and tune to really give them something to talk about.

Made 5 passes with Rich taking his time on the first 3 to get use to the new power plant.

Made a great pass on the 4th one and the 5th pass dropped off a few tenths as he exp with shifting into 4th gear to pick up some MPH - which didn't work out.

Best pass was #4, an 11.19@124mph with a 1.64 60ft.

Really pleased with the car and engine. My goal of making everything work well with his current drive line combo worked out great... but there is a little to be gained in the TQ converter IMO.

Nobody gave him any grief about not having a roll bar (today) but honestly after we loosen up the TQ converter (in a few weeks) he's gonna be needing a roll cage, because I think his car has some easy 10 second passes in it.

Wow, Will. I never questioned the power numbers....but the proof is in the time/mph!

Hey Matt,

Nothing snarky is directed at anyone here (I think). Infact the peeps here are more than accomodating of my know it all-ness about engines.... lol.

Unbeknown to me, until recently, I have attracted a few haters over on CF who think I'm just another internetz BS artist....

I'm just hoping to poke them in the eye a little.

I understand, Will. Never thought you were implying that. You are one of the most knowledgeable, up front, and honest builders I have ever seen. I wish I had you to build my motor when I did it.

Hey Will,

Thanks for posting this up for me. I have my 4 timeslips below with my version of what happened with each one.

The first one, I hit the rev limiter going from 1st to 2nd.
Resized Image

The second one, I hit the rev limiter going from 2nd to 3rd.

Resized Image

The 3rd run was just leaving it in drive, but I went through the traps well past the 6000 rpm factory tach, I figure around 6500

Resized Image

My 4th and final run was leaving it in drive until I got to about 5800rum in 3rd and then shifting into overdrive.

Resized Image

Again, here is a copy of the dyno sheet where Ed Hutchings tuned the car

Resized Image

As you can see, it is still making good power to 6500 rpms. I need to either learn how to shift better, (practice and a better tach or shiftlight) or adjust the governor to shift higher then 5700-5800. These runs were with 3/4 tank of fuel and the hardtop bolted on the car. I really believe the car has the potential to hit 125-126mph.
Gotta say, that Will knows how to build a motor!!

PS I don't pay too much attention to the crap some post over there, you are gonna have some of those everywhere you go. I still had one of the pm's sent to me, (Looks awesome, but why the 100 rwhp gain on the one dyno pull?
462 divide by .80 is 577chp.
What does it trap?
I am confused. That would be close to 500rwhp in a manual trans and that combo doesnt have that potential as the cam and heads are too small, and cubes.

Fill me in ppppp lease.... )

I answered telling him we had bad injectors in the car and Ed changed them out. I also ask if he was implying we were lying?
I never heard back from him. FWIW I think he was upset that he spent probably twice as much money on his engine and wasn't making near the power mine is.

Thanks guys.

More racing videos comming from this car. We have a private track rental at Richmond scheduled in June.

He just bought a transmission govner tuning kit to try and get the shift RPM up a bit when left in Drive.
