So we towed to 75-80 for test and tune. Sat in traffic for 3hrs.... track is only 65 miles away.
Car broke a U-Joint in the drivers halfshaft on the first pass. Bashed up the end yolk enough that the halfshaft is not reuseable too.... Too bad had a nice little wheel stand going until it broke.... What are you gonna do... this stuff was stock from 1984 with 101, 000 miles and 3 yrs of 1.40 60fts on it.... reckon I knew better than to keep running it. Gonna tear it apart tomorrow. Already ordered the good Spicer U-Joints and new strap/bolt kit from Dennys. Hope to be ready for next Friday. Will |

Too bad about the carnage, where are the pics
Are you doing cryo/hardened halfshafts or will you continue to run stock ones? I am truly impressed the stock one lasted that long. Matthew |

Matt
I have a friend that has some stock halfshafts and he said I could have them to get going again. So no cryo or anything. Just the good Spicer U-Joints. Thinking of getting a local driveline shop to make me some steel shafts, but so far my experience between the 92 and now this car shows the U-Joints are the weak link. Thing is the ends of the shaft get bashed up pretty bad when the joints break.... BTW it could have been way worse. The right side inner joint was destroyed as well.... just hadnt broke yet. Weird because the needles were crushed in it.... the drivers side that broke, the needles are totally fine. Brian It did not damage the storage compartment. The joint broke at the cross and then kinda wedged itself together.... I was able to limp down the track and load it on the trailer no problem. Would take some pics but its just a broken U-Joint... not much to see. I do have video of the pass and will upload it in a few. Will |

glad the damage was limited and easily repairable!! You're right, it could have been a lot worse.
