... our new foul weather driver (Frankie the Impala) brings in a lot more snow than the previous one (Elizabeth the X-Type) ever did - probably because the Impala is significantly larger. With the way this winter has gone, the garage floor has collected a lot of water.

Does Guru have any ideas on something that could absorb water and not cost a mint or should I just keep my shop push broom handy?

Maybe a big floor squeegee would be easier. In my next life, my garage floor is going to be heated, and it's gonna have a drain. And the garage will have running water. And a lift. And a wet bar, big screen TV and urinal.

No hot tub Brad....? Our Tahoe can bring in a snow drift and melt all over....we find that if you have a ton of cats and don't water them they will take care of it for you....there are some downsides to having a ton of cats though....

I use the old push broom method but my cement floor is shot and it works ok. I always think a squeegee works best on nice smooth concrete floors....which I am sure you have...

How about a big shop vac and vacuum it up....then roll it outside and dump it......

My garage is more "austere" than (evidently) my reputation suggests (especially when compared to many Corvette folks in the area) but my floors are pretty smooth ...

Hm... you can use old carpets... there are perforated rubber mats that will trap much of the moisture...

I guess you don't have a drain in the floor, eh?

There's a chitload of vendors that sell drain tiles.

http://www.amazon.com/Gladiator-Garag ... IYRWI/ref=pd_sim_sbs_hg_2

Most garage floors are sloped towards the doors per the building code.

I'd love to have a shop with a drain.

But, getting the drain past your local, friendly building inspector will cost you $15 - $20,000.00

Yea, I know how to do it AND have the inspector look at it without seeing it.

First, there's the cost of the drain in the garage and piping - minor $$

Then there's the EPA approved grease/oil separation sump/system

Then the drain has to be connected to your sewer system or separate septic.

And if you're in California there's:

The Corp of Engineers Environmental 2 year study

A $10,000 contribution to Nancy Pelosi's reelection fund

And a notarized statement that ObamaCare is working flawlessly.

No floor drains allowed here. I have a large floor squeegee that I use every day to get rid of the standing water. PIA but it works.

Bill what if you piped it to a 1000 gal holding tank and had that pumped out every now and then? Would they be all over that?

Damn if I know Marcus, I was just going by what I heard a while back (the top 3 things I mentioned).
A bunch of years ago I had looked at the sumps because I heard about the EPA stuff, then heard about having to connect to the sewer.

Interesting that drains are not allowed. You cannot hardly get a garage in a house without a drain in my neck of the woods. Yes, it comes in very handy in the snow season. All you have to do is let the water drain and once the floor is dry, broom or leaf blow the salt and grime out!

Thinking about it, my basement garage has 2 drains!!
