Hey guys, I've got a good friend down in Florida who has a 2000 Convertible. He has started getting the "Service ABS" message. It is showing the following codes:

C1217 H BPMV pump motor relay contact CKT open
C1243 H BPMV pump motor stalled
C1255 H EBTCM internal malfunction

He has taken it to two different dealers with the same answer: He needs to replace the following parts:

1. Electronic Brake Control Module: Part #9367071
2. Brake Pressure Modulator Valve: Part #15230740

Both are discontinued by GM and not available from any sources that they have. My internet search turned up nothing as well. It seems the early ('97-2000) models have different parts than anything later, and no one can repair them, and salvage parts are scarce and expensive (and still old and used!).

Anyone have any ideas? Since my car is a '98, I am very interested in this in case it happens to mine in the future, but mainly I'd like to help my friend.

Thanks in advance!

ABS problems are common...or becoming more common with age. The EBCM is super expensive and discontinued. The 1997-2000 models are particularly affected. 2001-2004 use a different unit.

Apparently for 97-00 code C1214 C1281 they can be repaired, all others seem to be a no go:

The original poster called the C1255 code the "code of death"

What makes matters worse, many C5 parts were dumped after the GM bankruptcy.

You may try the used vendors, Vette2Vette.com and the like.

FYI - the ABS is down near the steering rack in front of the engine.

I read that GM and Delphi "lost" the diagrams/schematics during their sale/dissolution/separation whatever you want to call it.

No F'n way you'll find a good used one, if you do it's $900.

Thanks for the input, Matt and Andy.  I was afraid that would be what I would hear.  I did quite a bit of searching myself before posting, and had no luck, so I was hoping maybe someone would know something that I couldn't find.  I'll keep looking/asking....but I'm not optimistic.

As a sidenote....I have another good friend who is a real Electronic "genius".  Wonder how hard it would be to "reverse engineer" the module and see if it could be fixed?  Of course, if the failed part is proprietary, it probably couldn't be done.....but, it might be worth a shot.

Thanks again....Thanks

From what I read, some guys have dissected the board. But the manufacturer used components without any type of identifying marks on them. I guess you would need some fancy equipment to figure out what everything was.

Edited...didn't realize you had a 2000.

I just fixed some 2001-2004 versions but they are not interchangeable.

Yeah, the 2001-2004 versions can be fixed a lot easier. Too bad they are not a direct swap.
