So my vette has a 94 Console driver side (I feel the finish looks better)

it currently looks like this:

Resized Image

But the Console is bowed at the passenger side and I don't care for the edge of the Radio Bezel. I had cut the 94 bezels to fit.

Now I am working on grafting the 94 to the 91 bezels..

Here is the console:

Console has been easier, partly because I started with the Radio bezel. Now when I do the next Radio bezel I have a different way to try it and potentially make it a bit easier.

I am mixing this:

Resized Image

with ABS Pellets I bought off eBay

Resized Image

to make a MEK solution, I had it really thick but I have found that a thinner/runnier solution seems to work really well.

I am very close on the Radio bezel and the nice thing of the MEK is it bonds quite nice and is solid

Yes, but more than glue.. the mixture will melt the ABS pellets and it melts essentially to the bezel.. the bond is seriously solid

Very cool! That is kind of how the Plastex stuff works - it turns into a moldable goo that hardens into plastic.

I don't have one of the Console, but can get one (I have like 3 or 4 console plates)

Here is the ZR-1 1990 bezel and my modded one in early stages

Resized Image

I had to open up the Radio bezel for my tablet as well.. I will get a more recent picture of the radio bezel soon

that's the basic premise behind plastic model glue, but it won't do that to ABS.

here is the radio bezel:
Resized Image

the dark spots are my MEK (very thin mix) to try and fill the voids..

It is in primer so I can see all the voids and such while sanding it.

I am quite happy with it so far I still need to add 2 holes to the bezel for my Volume and balance.

The radio hole has been opened another 1/2" for the tablet as well

yes I did, but getting the mix just right...

Although I did use that on the console..

On this, the panel needed more of a build up and I wanted it to be solid.. this is working really well for me now

It was also a guessing game.. more acetone, the more it is liquid.. more abs the more it is like caramel consistency

adjust to what you are doing

YEs an no..

Sonically it sounds great with Pandora/Slacker/ USB music

With the Tuner, it could be better, but my Antenna is fubar, it rained the other night and I could not receive any stations.

On clear days I need to exercise the antenna a couple times to get good reception (no fault of the system)

I added the switches since there is no remote turn on out of the amp. I wish I could find a Audio sensing circuit for the amps..

in the end all the bezel work was more for the 95 side panel.. on the driver side not the radio, I will build 2 more panels but not cut yet for the Tablet..

Just bought another radio bezel to start widening..

I really prefer the 94-96 driver side console side, due to fit and finish. I thought I would prefer the 94-96 radio and console bezels, but after doing the work I did on the 91 bezel, I changed my mind.

The one I bought is rough so it will be a fun project to rebuild.

Keep in mind the new bezel I installed really was a first pass..

I thought of that route. with mine I don't know if it is the mast or the whole assembly. I have an assembly with the mast (not sure of the mast condition)

I have also tried the Tune Trapper (in the garage) and at one point it was better than the Mast.. Although a hidden will never be as good as a mast, just not sure which route to go

With the bezel being opened more I can press the home, back, and apps buttons easier. also looks more centered but I did nothing side to side.

Volume and balance controls might be a bit too close, but it is different than before so they might be fine..

back from traveling..

Going to start on my second radio bezel (basically going to make it fit the console for now. not adding anything else until I wrap up everything with the tablet...

I still need to either find an audio sensing circuit already built or build one. that would work to handle the turn on of the amps, I will keep the toggle switch, but this would be seemless

Looks like your starting bond in pic 1 is done with a slight gap there Jeff; is that deliberate?

Do you get more bonding agent in the gap like that?

No the gap is due to cutting both pieces with a coping saw, by hand

it does help for bonding as well by having the goop get between the 2 pieces.

This bezel so far has much less bonding material so far, I think it will look much better when complete. I am also thinking of building out the radio side and getting the tablet mounted to the bezel, it will make for a clean and better flush mount on the user side
