I love that GTO. The 64 Impala SS has tons of potential.

I love the '57 Cameo pickup. I had a '67 GTO, good-lookin' car, drove like a tank.

Let's be blunt here... vintage cars are cool. They look good. They sound insane... but they drive, corner and stop like shit.

Short of a highway car, think Caddy, Lincoln, Imperial, American cars were just brash... one trick ponies, really.

But once Shelby turned the Mustang into a world beater, things slowly started to change. During the bad years (1974-1990), performance sucked, but chassis and brake development advanced rapidly, so that when power was back, the rest of the car could deal with it.

Personally, I think we ARE living in the golden age of performance cars. Where else can you go to the dealer, buy a 600+ HP car, and be able drive it anywhere, without fear of overheating, getting 25-30 MPG highway and do with with all the creature comforts we have gotten used to having.

Totally correct.....the things you had to do to get 450 hp out of a car back then made it not so hot a set up for the street....now Ma's SUV has got 400 ponies and V6's are putting out serious HP in the 300's.....its all good now but the buy in is more for those ponies and brakes and such but it is a muscle car HP war right now and it keeps getting better......very nice!

Sadly, I don't have a pic of that car. It was dark blue, had black vinyl bench seats, dog dish hubcaps, armstrong windows, no power steering and may not even have had power brakes. But it went pretty good in a straight line ;-)

And just like in the olden days I don't seem to have the money to put together to justify buying one a new one.
