Good morning gang.

Should be a nice day again here with temps in the 70's and plenty of sunshine.

It's the end of a week let's get the day over with and start the weekend.

Word of the Day Friday, September 19, 2014

pilar \ PAHY-ler \, adjective;

1. of, pertaining to, or covered with hair.

Origin:

Pilar came to English in the mid-1800s from the New Latin pilāris meaning "of hair."

NATIONAL BUTTERSCOTCH PUDDING DAY

Today gives us a reason to celebrate, by eating a delicious dessert, as it is National Butterscotch Pudding Day. This food holiday is recognized each year on September 19.

The primary ingredients in the making of butterscotch are brown sugar and butter however, corn syrup, vanilla and salt are also sometimes used. In an 1848 newspaper, according to “Housewife’s Corner” and Masluk Cream Co., the real recipe for “making Doncaster butterscotch is one pound of butter, one pound of sugar and a quarter of a pound of treacle, boiled together”.

Butterscotch is often used as a flavor for items such as sauces and puddings and butterscotch pudding is what today is all about.

CELEBRATE NATIONAL BUTTERSCOTCH PUDDING DAY BY TRYING THE FOLLOWING “TRIED AND TRUE” RECIPE:

Creamy Butterscotch Pudding Recipe

Ingredients
◦1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar
◦2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons cornstarch
◦1/8 teaspoon salt
◦2 cups fat-free milk
◦2 egg yolks, lightly beaten
◦1 tablespoon butter
◦1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Directions
1.In a small saucepan, combine the brown sugar, cornstarch and salt. Add milk and egg yolks; stir until smooth. Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture comes to a boil. Cook and stir 1-2 minutes longer or until thickened.
2.Remove from the heat; stir in butter and vanilla. Cool to room temperature, stirring several times. Pour into four individual dessert dishes. Cover and refrigerate for 1-2 hours or until chilled. Yield: 4 servings.

NATIONAL TRADESMEN DAY

Each year on the third Friday in September, the men and women who work with their hands to build America and keep it running strong are honored on National Tradesmen Day.

“National Tradesmen Day, initiated by IRWIN Tools, aims to heighten awareness of the role of professional tradesmen, who are the central focus on this occasion. Tradesmen contribute so meaningfully to our lives in so many ways. From building our homes, schools, and churches; to keeping our cars running; to keeping our lights on and keeping us warm; to fixing our leaky pipes – America’s professional tradesmen are the backbone of our nation. For some people, it’s just a job – a means to an end. But for professional tradesmen, it’s often a calling. And, it’s not just about doing their work – it’s about doing their life’s work. To show respect to the role that professional tradesmen play in the world, National Tradesmen Day places great value on the contributions they make to society each and every day.”

“The ‘National Tradesmen Day’ emblem is a distinct graphical icon that spotlights the ‘real’ working hands. The logo-mark shows an uplifted hand—an image of strength and confidence—clenching a pair of VISE-GRIP® locking pliers, a long-standing universal symbol of work and productivity. This image conveys power and is a ‘quick-read’ for the role of tradesmen in our lives.”(Wikipedia)

NATIONAL TRADESMEN DAY HISTORY

Friday, September 16, 2011 was the inaugural National Tradesmen Day, an “unofficial” national holiday.

NATIONAL POW/MIA RECOGNITION DAY

In the United States, National POW/MIA Recognition Day is annually observed on the third Friday in September.

=============================================================

This day honors those men and women who were prisoners of war and those who are still missing in action.

=============================================================

NATIONAL POW/MIA RECOGNITION DAY was established by an Act of Congress with the passage of Section 1082 of the 1998 Defense Authorization Act. This day is one of the six days that Federal Law requires the POW/MIA Flag be flown at all places designated by the U.S, Secretary of Defense.

Good Morning CGs!

Seems like everyone is slow today. I will have to make up for that on the way to work

Took off my passenger seat cushions yesterday and dropped them off at my buddy's shop. His uncle is an upholsterer and is going to install the new seat covers and add extra padding where required to get them plush. I did not buy new foams, too expensive at this point. Will keep you all posted.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Morning guys...TGIF. We are headed to KC after school to pick up from #1 daughter her old couch and oversized chair and tv to bring back for #2 daughters' new house. We'll also get some time with the grands there. Just have to make it through the work day.

Yahoo, Friday is finally here! Been dragging all week, looking forward to the weekend. Meanwhile, I'm scouting around to have a remote starter installed on the pickup.

Enjoy your Friday, Gurus!

Aye maties! Shiver me timbers and hang em from the yardarms.
Looks like Talk Like a Pirate Day has been gaining traction through the years. Got up early, let one of the dogs out, then stepped in a pile of shit that she left on the front doormat. That'll wake you up. Had a delivery this morning and made it back by 09:00. It's overcast and drizzly. Walter is supposed to come over this afternoon and tweak the pond a little. I'm yawning and it ain't even 10:00. Have a few errands to run in town and I'll figure out what the next things I do after I get back. Dayum, this weather has me nappy.

Who does that? I'm mesmerized by the spinning of the wheels, Ding, ding ,ding, ding. The plate of food in front of me, the variety of shows, the touring of new places, meeting new people seeing new things. Staring at water for more than a second or two is BORING. Viewing a glacier, an active volcano, thousands of years old ruins, (they didn't race cars but they raced chariots then) (I'm sure there was some old horseman talking about unless you race chariots your not living) Life is what you make it even if it means you love to weave baskets.

I know a guy that said something to the effect of "I went to the beach once when I was a teenager. It was boring." Now he lives in a desert. The only sand he likes to be near is the sand he collects from the garage floor. He took the rolling curves of a track over the rolling curves of a wave. Instead of the smell of an oil with an SPF 30, he prefers an SAE 5W 30. If you offer him gas, grass or ass, he'll always opt for the gas. I heard a rumor that there was a guy in Pennsylvania named Grumpy Bill before there was a guy named Grumpy Jenkins. Of course it's only a rumor.

The last time I went, 3 of us loaded a foosball table into my Chevy van because we knew all the morons we were with would just sit & stare on the beach all day.

Grumpy Jenkins was partners with my cousin Dave.
He may have been grumpy but he sure did exciting shit.

Made it to KC. It was a slow trip this time 6:15. There was more road construction and an idiot on the turnpike blocking the K-Tag lane so we had to get in line with the guys who have to pay the toll with cash. My Royals were at the ballpark tonight, but they forgot that they were supposed to play baseball. I think they must have thought tonight was tiddly winks. Detroit pounded them. Looks like they might have gone cold at the wrong time.....Oh well, there's always next year.

I tired and going to hit the hay.
