1. STEERING WHEEL, '87, BADLY WORN. HAD A COVER ON IT WHEN I GOT THE CAR THAT WOULDN'T STAY PUT AND MADE THE WHEEL TOO "FAT". THINKING ABOUT SHOE LEATHER DYE BUT CAN'T FIND THE RIGHT SHADE. WONDER IF I COULD WATER DOWN SOME BLACK TO CHARCOAL? ANYBODY TRIED THIS? OR IS THERE SOME PRODUCT THAT WILL DO THE TRICK?

2. CONSOLE, '96, BEAT UP, UNSIGHTLY. ANY WAY TO RE-DO THAT CRAPPY FINISH? OR IS REPLACEMENT THE BEST BET? I DON'T THINK YOU COULD EVEN PAINT OVER THAT SURFACE TO ANY GOOD EFFECT.

I think I would replace and replace with recycled goods. I remember hearing of a steering wheel wrap some years back that was quite popular and fit fairly well but that's all I remember about it. Just a thought.

Redline Products has the wheel wraps... reach out to them...

Consoles? they were a poor design, just get new from MidAmerica and save a lot of angst.

Here's a thread I recalled seeing about stripping the dulso off of the console:

Steering wheel - redline like Andy mentioned is good quality. I have a wheelskins cover that is pretty nice. You sew it on yourself with the provided needle and thread.

Console - the 96 had that dulso finish - you can remove it and repaint if you like. Some guys are having theirs hydrodipped, as well. If that doesn't suit you, they sell reproductions - $105 here:

According to the auction they are "rubber coated like original" although I have no personal experience.

GOT THE 7181 VERY DARK GRAY AND IT WAS A VERY GOOD MATCH. I GOT THE NO GLOSS, SHOULD HAVE GOT THE SEMI-GLOSS, BUT MAYBE A LITTLE LIQUID WAX WOULD FINISH IT OFF RIGHT. THIS STUFF WORKED SO WELL I MAY GET SOME RED AND DO SOME TOUCH UP ON THE DRIVER'S SEAT.

THANKS FOR THE TIP, BILL
