Good morning gang.

The world series is set. Royals and Giants.

Not much happening here. Should be a nice day today with partly sunny skies and temps in the mid to upper 60's.

Let's get the day started.

Word of the Day Friday, October 17, 2014

duple \ DOO-puhl, DYOO- \, adjective;

1.having two parts; double; twofold.

2.Music . having two or sometimes a multiple of two beats in a measure: duple meter.

Origin:

Duple entered English in the mid-1500s. It comes from the Latin word duplus which meant "double."

Today is NATIONAL PASTA DAY

National Pasta Day is celebrated annually on October 17th. October is also recognized as National Pasta Month.

Pasta is a type of noodle of traditional Italian cuisine, with the first reference dating to 1154 in Sicily and first attested in English in 1874. Typically it is made from an unleavened dough of a durum wheat flour that is mixed with water or eggs and formed into sheets or various shapes, then cooked and served in a variety of dishes.

Pasta is divided into two categories; dried or fresh.

Fresh pasta was originally produced by hand but today, many varieties of fresh pasta are commercially produced by large scale machines and the products are widely available in supermarkets.

◦Dried and fresh pasta come in a number of shapes and varieties.
◦There are 310 specific forms known variably by over 1300 names having been recently documented.
◦In Italy, names of specific pasta shapes or types vary with locale.
◦Example: Cavatelli is known by 28 different names depending on the region and town.

NATIONAL PASTA DAY HISTORY

Within our research we were unable to find the creator of National Pasta Day, an “unofficial” national holiday.

NATIONAL MULLIGAN DAY

Each year on October 17, people all across the country celebrate National Mulligan Day.

In a game, a mulligan happens when a player gets a second chance to perform a certain move or action.

This day was created as a day for giving yourself a second chance or, as some people call it, a “do-over”. We can all think of something that at one point in time we have said “I wish I could do that over”, Today, to celebrate National Mulligan Day, take your “do-over”.

According to the United States Golf Association (USGA), there are three different stories explaining that the term derived from the name of a Canadian golfer, David Mulligan, one-time manager of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City, who played golf in the 1920′s. A different, later etymology gives credit to John A. “Buddy” Mulligan, a locker room attendant at Essex Fells C.C., New Jersey in the 1930′s. Yet another story according to author Henry Beard, states that the term comes from Thomas Mulligan, a minor Anglo-Irish aristocrat and passionate golfer who was born in 1793.

According to the USGA, the term first achieved widespread use in the 1940′s

HAVE A HAPPY NATIONAL MULLIGAN DAY !

NATIONAL MAMMOGRAPHY DAY

National Mammography Day is observed annually on the third Friday in October, as part of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This day serves as a reminder to all women that the best defense is early detection.

* Make sure you get your regular checkups. *

NATIONAL MAMMOGRAPHY DAY HISTORY

President Bill Clinton proclaimed the first National Mammography Day in 1993.

Good Morning CGs!

Scored an ebay deal on a nice 13 pc set of used mac pliers yesterday. I'm happy. I've been looking for some good extended reach pliers for a while now. This fits the bill.

Crappy weather here again. Cool with rain. I am ready for some sunshine again. All this rain makes for a very depressed mood.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Oraire gye!

Glad it's Friday, been busy all week. I am still stuffed from last night - it was my son's birthday, so he wanted to go to Olive Garden. My brain doesn't know that my stomach isn't' 17 anymore.

Have a great day, Gurus!

I dated a girl in high school that had the cutest dupels....

Wow I feel like I was run over by a truck this morning...worked all day yesterday off the back of a Honda 4 Trax with a soil probe. I go like I'm 30 during the day but the morning after is not so pretty....more coffee and a hot shower will help loosen me up....that and my little friend Advil....

Got notified my RaceDeck floor will be delivered next Tuesday so am looking forward to getting the shop project done. Winter is coming.....

Going into Lincoln in the GS to see the skin doc...they found some pre cancer they want to freeze off....I don't argue with them....after my whole life spent out in the sun I am paying the price and they help keep me going...

Have a day in which all things work for the good my brother Guru's......

Morning guys....was here at school early to receive my flu shot. School gives them for free, so I get one. Had students shortly after getting here, trying to finish up things for the end of the quarter. Amazing how frantic they get on the last day.

We only have 1/2 day of school then work day this afternoon for grading. I'm caught up, so it will be a day for me to work in the shop, cleaning, putting tools up, etc.

Not sure what that all means on those links Tommy. I don't feel rich, but according to those links, I'm in the top tier in the world and near there in the US. No complaints, I've done OK in my life. I do own a Corvette which makes me rich by many peoples' standards around here. Most who drive new $60K pickups and/or have $100K motorhomes sitting in their backyards. And tell me how they wish they were "rich enough" to own a Corvette.

Got to go next class coming in.

tee, I don't feel rich but as indicated by the charts I'm sitting on top of the world. My travels have taught me this to be true as I have seen how much of the world lives. That's based on dollar value of course and I'm sure tribesmen don't have a high capita income nor do people fishermen living on boats in the Far East. They eat, sleep and $#!+ like the rest of us. They are not burdened by foolish luxuries like cable TV, cell phones and the need of an automobile. Americans have placed this really strange value on money. There is success on so many other platforms. What fascinates Americans is who's got what. Musicians, sports figures, movie stars and the like capture all the glory. Tells you a lot about Americans.

Well, just got back from our football game. We lost, and I really don't mind losing, but, losing because of a reffing error is hard to swallow. 4th quarter, 1:24 on the clock, we are down 38-36, we have 1st down on the 21. Throw an incomplete pass. 2nd down run the ball close enough for a measurement.....inches short. We call time out and when we come out of the TO, the white hat calls out to the sideline downs keeper that it is 4th down and signals up to me that it is 4th down. I've got third down on the scoreboard and say to the others, that it's not fourth, but third down. The ref puts the ball into play. They stop us on a play up the middle, short of the first down and they indicate that it is the opposing teams' ball. It was like we lost a down for calling the TO. People everywhere are screaming, the coaches in the box with us are freaking out. The two radio stations that are there are both beside themselves, both trying to figure out what just happened. Even if they figure out there was a mistake, nothing can be done.

NOW, on a brighter note. My #1 daughter texts me this afternoon, asking, "IF i can come up with tickets would I be able to come to KC for a World Series game?" I text back, IF you can get tickets I'll take two personal days. About 15 minutes later I get a text that says Merry Christmas and Happy birthday, you have two tickets to game two of the WORLD Series, to watch MY Royals play. I am so thrilled and thankful to my daughter. I told some people tonight and they couldn't believe that she was able to get tickets, they had tried and couldn't get them. My daughter is the best!
