I am working on that relentlessly original 72 coupe... and it won't start.

Fresh battery, good strong cranking, but no start... added fresh fuel and using starting ether.

If it was a fuel problem, I would expect the ether to at least get it to sputter and quit, vs just cranking.

So... tests so far:

1. pulled plug wire, ground to manifold, no spark.

2. Cleaned points, cleaned contacts to coil, no change.

3. no power to coil... used DVM to test for voltage, none measured.

4. found a key lock in the middle of the rear, like a truck lock, but it controls an alarm, could I be dealing with an immobilizer?

I don't think an immobilizer unless its some weird aftermarket thing.....those locks were for an alarm system on the C3's but didn't know you could get them in 72....before fobs that's how you armed them.....

Was the car hauled to your location....I forget.

The rotor is turning right?

Motor is cranking... and it was hauled over.

I refreshed the fuel, added a can of Chevron Techron. Used 91.

The schematic Matthew sent spoke volumes (THANK YOU!)... there is a fusible link on the hot to the coil... and now I need to take the mental break that rodents may have snacked on wiring.

the alarm strikes me as being dealer installed... the key locks used to be mounted on the driverside front fender, above the "Stingray" logo.

They were in the later C3's but I don't think it was a factory option back in 72.....so it has to be a dealer thing...maybe they were all dealer installed but I can remember seeing them on the 76's on up on the driverside front fender....

I think they started in 1974, but I need to check the black book.

Off the top of my head, seems like 73 was the first year for the alarm with the key on the fender......but not sure...mid 70's for sure.

Apparently clear back to 69. Mid America has replacement harnesses back to 69-70 model years.

If this thing has been moused, I am going to fix it with solder... the old fashioned way...

A new harness is just too expensive, and unless the wiring is REALLY trashed, I am figuring a few things here and there...

won't know until the weekend, tho.

I fixed this problem... it was a bad coil

I also installed a Pertronix LS electronic ignition conversion. The car fired right up on ether yesterday! FIRST CRANK!
