Good morning gang.

Finally some decent weather this week. Should be nice today with temps in the low to mid 60's.

Word of the Day Wednesday, October 22, 2014

pavonine \ PAV-uh-nahyn, -nin \, adjective;

1.of or like a peacock.

2.resembling the feathers of a peacock, as in coloring.

Origin:

Pavonine is derived from the Latin word for peacock, pāvō , with the suffix -ine , a suffix of adjectives of Greek or Latin origin, meaning “of or pertaining to,” as in marine.

Today NATIONAL NUT DAY

This day is NOT about the neighbor that lives down the street or the crazy co-worker, it is a food holiday that celebrates a healthy and nutritious snack. National Nut Day is celebrated each year on October 22.

Nuts are a highly prized food and energy source and are an important source of nutrients for both humans and wildlife. Many of them are used in cooking, eaten raw, sprouted or roasted as a snack food, pressed for oil that is used in cookery and cosmetics.

The fats found in nuts, for the most part, are unsaturated fats including monounsaturated fats.

Many nuts are good sources of vitamins E and B2 and are also rich in protein, folate fiber and essential minerals such as magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, copper and selenium.

Nuts are important to animals, especially those in temperate climates, such as jays and squirrels, to name a few, as they store acorns and other nuts during the autumn months to keep from starving during late autumn, all winter and early spring.

Several studies have shown that those who consume nuts on a regular basis are less likely to suffer from coronary heart disease. (CHD) It was in 1993 that nuts were first linked to protections against CHD. Since that time, many clinical trials have found that consumption of various nuts such as almonds and walnuts can lower serum LDL cholesterol concentrations.

One study has shown that people who ate nuts lived two to three years longer than those who did not. The results of the longer life may be due to the fact that because they were eating more nuts, they were in turn, eating less junk food.

Nuts are most healthy in their raw form.

To celebrate National Nut Day, have a snack, or two, of raw nuts during the day and also try the following “tried and true” NUT recipe:

http://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/mixed-nut-bars

NATIONAL NUT DAY HISTORY

National Nut Day, an “unofficial” national holiday is uncertain of it’s origin in the United States.

NATIONAL COLOR DAY

National Day Calendar is acknowledged with thankfulness of living in a colorful nation, as it is celebrated annually on October 22 . This day was created as a day to learn how colors influence our mood, productivity and behavior in our everyday lives.

It is hard to imagine a world without color, one that is all black, white and shades of gray.

Color has long been used to create feelings of coziness or spaciousness. However, how people are affected by different color stimuli varies from person to person.

Color can carry specific meaning.

Different colors are perceived to mean different things.
Following is one rendition of perceived meaning of different colors in the
United States.

◦Red: Excitement – Love – Strength
◦Yellow: Competence – Happiness
◦Green: Good Taste – Envy – Relaxation
◦Blue: Corporate – High Quality
◦Pink: Sophistication – Sincerity
◦Violet/Purple: Authority – Power
◦Brown: Ruggedness
◦Black: Grief – Fear
◦White: Happiness – Purity.

HAPPY NATIONAL COLOR DAY!

NATIONAL COLOR DAY HISTORY

Within our research, we were unable to find the creator of the United States National Color Day, an “unofficial” national holiday.

Another pretty decent October day here, no complaints. The Royals laid an egg last night, lets hope they turn it around.

Good Morning CGs!

It is chilly in the house this morning. We didn't have the heat on last night so it's that season.

Had a great leg workout yesterday. Sore today. I'll try to get the bushes trimmed today. If not....tomorrow

Last night I decided to mod the TB on the car and took that off. I drilled a small hole to help with air flow at idle with the blades closed. I have some more testing to do, so we'll see.

Marcus - did you get the soil probe running? Post some pics of the flooring in the garage section.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Par for the course. (Throw sand wedge into the lake) I'm trying to hang a 16' piece of gutter by myself. I have one end resting on a fixed gutter the other end I was trying to position with a dead man. The gutter slips off the dead man to the outside sending the dead man through a screen. Now I have to replace a section of screen before I can hang the gutter. Lovely, simply f@(%!ng lovely. Now I'm pissed. Getting a lot of nothing done and adding more to it. Rigginfriggin sassafrsson modeckin shidilabop. Think I'll go have an NA.

Got home from HD. Wifey calls and wants me to look at something. I go to the nursery and check it out. Get back and the skies open up. My shoulder is still acting up and I'm getting tired of it. The dogs better stay out of my way, especially my feet.

Marcus, did you say nap? Hell with a nap. It's time for a felony.

Beautiful day here again today. What I wouldn't give to be at the beach this weekend. My beach friend is on an out of town job so the house will be vacant. I don't like to go when nobody's home
Busy as heck at the design job today - and overheard the boss say to our radio station company that we've never ever ever been this busy in October. We had a live remote today and the sales lady brought us home made chicken and dumplins. And I'll be wrapping one of their vehicles. So happens they just saw their competitor's van I just did and now they're all jealous so we worked on theirs today. It's a FJ Cruiser, the Station is KISS FM.. big set of lips, hot pink colors.. and you can imagine the conversation with two vulgar minded radio personalities in my office plus my smart mouthed boss...
And, my car insurance company sent me a letter that my passenger car policy will no longer be in effect Nov. 17. They can transition me to their 'other company'... bla bla... I got worried. Turns out they won't be doing regular cars but their 'other' company will take that over. That ends up being a $100/6 month discount for me. In addition I've accrued some 'equity' somehow so my premium deduction out of my bank this month is 1/3 less and she talks like next month there won't be one. Should pick up in December but we'll see. And I just bought a size smaller jeans and not sure what happened there...

Wow, a sixteen inch length of gutter. I could probably do that standing on.....one leg (since I apparently only work out one at a time )

Matt, lol, 16'. Good catch.

I get to try again after I replace the screen. Think I'll try a different approach.

Maybe you should do the gutter first. Less chance of the screen falling in to the gutter than the other way around.

Looks like teebee's personal attendance mojo is working so far. Maybe the Royals should give him tickets to the rest of the games.

Tommy, your gutter story reminded me of the last time I wallpapered the dining room. I had just finished putting up the last piece, and had already put away my step-stool, when I noticed that where that piece met the ceiling it needed to be trimmed a little better (this was around midnight, and we had company coming the next day). So I scooted a dining chair over near the wall and climbed up on that. I had to lean ever so slightly to one side, and the next thing I knew, the chair tipped over and sliced a hole in the wall, clean through the sheetrock. So I got to spend a bunch more quality time repairing it.

As luck would have it the gutter covers the top track of the screen hence screen first.

And that's how Brad became a member of "The Hole In The Wall Gang".

Here's the killer. I had it in place and was trying to screw in a self tapping aluminum screw. The hex screw head kept falling out of the socket. I couldn't hold it in place any longer. After several attempts to start the screw, the weight (and the shoulder) required me to put my end of the gutter back down to the ground. I was 99% there. It was then that I came up with the dead man support idea. Stuff like that is always funny as long as it's not happening to you.

Just think, if you had fallen instead of the gutter, you might have been the dead man.

Maybe a little tape or grease in the bit driver to help hold the screw.

I was 10 feet up holding a gutter. Unfortunately I didn't bring any tape up with me. I did have a few extra screws though. That's the kind of stuff that happens when you have a screw loose.
