Good morning gang.

Last Thursday of the month. Not a lot happening here today.
Should be a nice day with temps in the upper 40's lower 50's.

Let us get started.

Word of the Day Thursday, October 30, 2014

baleful \ BEYL-fuhl \, adjective;

1.full of menacing or malign influences; pernicious.

2.Obsolete. wretched; miserable.

Origin:

Baleful stems from the Old English word bealu-full meaning "dire, wicked, cruel."

Today is NATIONAL CANDY CORN DAY

National Candy Corn Day is celebrated annually on October 30th.

Candy Corn was created by George Renninger of Wunderle Candy Company in the late 1800′s. He created this sweet treat to represent the pretty colors of kernels of corn. Originally, Candy Corn was yellow, orange, and white, but has become popular in other colors as well, when produced for Christmas, Valentine’s Day, and Easter.

This confection was originally made by hand using corn syrup, sugar, water, marshmallows, Fondant, and carnauba wax (a wax made from the leaves of a palm tree), but it is now produced using machines. The originally ingredients are still used in the recipe.

Whether you are adventurous and want to go whip up a batch or go and purchase a bag, go and enjoy National Candy Corn Day.

****Enjoy****

NATIONAL CANDY CORN DAY HISTORY

Within our research, we were unable to find the creator and origin of National Candy Corn Day, an “unofficial” national holiday.

Good Morning CGs!

It is chilly out there. I had to back my car out of the drive so wifey could get out of the garage this morning. Doesn't look like it will warm up too much, either.

Cold weather is not good around here unless you are in the furnace industry. Mom called me yesterday around 2pm and said the furnace wouldn't turn on. I got there around 5 and started pulling things apart. Found out the pressure switch is bad, reading infinite ohms. Of course it's a specialty switch that I have to get from the closed supply house. My neighbor owns a commercial heating company so he's going to order the part this morning under the company ($$$$ savings) and I will pick it up. Luckily only 10 minutes from my mom's house. That should solve the issue. I was able to jumper the system to test it last night which eliminated that switch. Also needs an inducer motor assembly, but that's about $300 so it can wait.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Morning guys....The sun is going to come up this morning, I'm disappointed, but not mad or vengeful. San Fran won the game, so we'll have to regroup and give it the best shot next year.

Last home football game of the year tonight. Do it on Thursday to give teams moving on in the playoffs an extra day to prepare, as first playoff game is Tuesday (IIRC, I don't know). Makes no difference to us as we won't be advancing. Our girls volleyball team advanced to the state tourney, which begins tomorrow. They have called off school tomorrow afternoon so people, who want to, can go watch them. I'll not be driving across the state to do it, I've got lots to do here at home.

Time to get moving here. Have a guru day.

Gris -

How did the eye surgery go?

I just remembered - I stopped to look at that white 89 convertible. Nice shape, driver condition, red guts, aftermarket radio, antenna didn't work....automatic. Sorry, amigo.

Gloomy day here in Ohio. All chilly and overcast.

I should get the Corvette back today. Shop found worn bushings in the seat causing the rocking and also some air valve not getting what it needs causing the check engine light. I can't wait to see what that will run me.

I put new Cooper ZEON RS3-A tires on the Impala SS. So far I really like them, nice grip and really quiet.

Meanwhile at Mecum, let the drooling begin: https://autos.yahoo.com/news/rare-69-c ... ross-block-183023319.html

Did my delivery and they found they needed more stuff. I have to do a return trip in the S-10. Deduct 2 more hours out of my day. Ah, WTF ....... It's only time.

Armchair coaching. In the ninth with 2 outs and the runner coming up on third with the ball in the outfield I would have sent the runner on and hoped for the best. Holding him up on third was probably conventional wisdom but in this situation I believe I would have let Lady Luck have a shot. Anyway it goes the third base coach would be on the hot seat. I'm sure he did what he thought was best. An errant throw from the outfielder would have tied the game and we all know how the Royals did in extra innings. I feel for the KC fans .......... Alright, I'm over it. Time to move on. Basketball season kicked off. Football season is sorting the winning teams from the losing teams and those that still have a shot. I gotta go....... Later .......

ANOTHER COOL, SUNNY DAY 73 FOR THE HIGH. FREEZE WARNING FOR TOMORROW NIGHT, DARLING WIFE WILL HAVE TO DECIDE WHAT PLANTS SHE WANTS TO SAVE.

BUMBLEBEE HVAC WENT PSYCHO TUESDAY AFTERNOON AND YESTERDAY, BLOWER TURNING ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY, RECURRENT DISPLAY CHANGES, NOT RESPONDING TO BUTTONS. STARTED IN TO THE SHOP THIS MORNING AND IT WAS WORKING PERFECTLY; TURNED AROUND AND CAME HOME. ANOTHER INTERMITTENT ELECTRONIC GREMLIN TO DISTURB MY TRANQUILITY? JUST WHAT I NEED.

Howdy, disgruntled Royals fans! Here's something for you - this season, the Royals' pitchers threw 2,287 pitches of 97+ mph. The Twinkies pitchers threw 1. Hope that helps tide you over until next season.

Have a good day, all!

You know Tommy, I thought the same thing when that happened. Why not take the chance? Salvy wasn't 100%, from the time they beaned him...(still thinking that was more than an errant pitch, but I digress). We had chances, off and on, and couldn't make it happen. There's always next year. Yea, Brad, that is pretty amazing in itself. Our pitchers can really whing that ball.

cold here this morning, and tomorrow night we're due for a low of 32. I have one rose about to bloom on a bush that didn't bloom at all this year and now it will surely die before I even get to see it.
for you Royals fans, the NWS was at least rooting for you yesterday as well, ran across this:

Did they fix it yet? Very common problem and there are repair kits for it.

Well it took most of the day but the furnace is fixed. As it turns out, the pressure switch was not the problem, but was the symptom. Worn out air inducer motor was the problem. Bearings were shot, they would overheat and seize up while trying to run so it wouldn't spin hard enough. Then it wouldn't get suction so the pressure switch wouldn't open. Had to drive an hour total to get the parts, but got the discount from my neighbor's HVAC company so all is well in furnace land.

That is perty and it's an 69, so most of the 68 issues are fixed. I like.
