Good morning gang.

Cold here this morning. Starting out in single digits and we should reach the mid to upper 20's today.

For those that are curious January is named after a two headed Roman god Janus. You can read about him here.

Word of the day is cabotage.

Today is NATIONAL FUN AT WORK DAY

Lets all have some fun on the job on National Fun At Work Day! This, unofficial national holiday, is known by some to always be celebrated on January 28th and by others always on the last Friday in January. Many people spend a good portion of their lives at work, so why should they not try to enjoy it? While looking to find fun things to do at work, let your imagination be the leader. Make sure whatever fun and exciting things that you choose has your boss’s approval. Better yet, get your boss involved in the fun.

“Dave Hemseth and Leslie Yerkes, co-authors of “301 Ways to Have Fun at Work” say that “organizations that integrate fun into work have lower levels of absenteeism, greater job satisfaction, increased productivity, and less downtime”.

HAVE FUN!

NATIONAL KAZOO DAY

January 28 is National Kazoo Day, an unofficial holiday celebrating more than a century and a half of kazoo music in the United States.

Fun Kazoo Facts:

* Alabama Vest, of Macon Georgia made the first Kazoo in the 1840′s

* Commercial production of the Kazoo began in 1912

* There is a production factory museum in Eden, NY

* Carol Burnett’s character, Miss Hannigan, played the kazoo in the movie version of “Annie”

Kazoos are easy to play. You simply hum a tune into the kazoo and you are now a kazoo expert. Let’s all make some noise!!

NATIONAL BLUEBERRY PANCAKE DAY

National Blueberry Pancake Day is celebrated annually January 28th.

I remember as a youngster (that phrase is a prerequisite for an old fart to start the reflection of an old memory) we would go to IHOP (a special treat) and order blueberry pancakes. Thought I had died an gone to heaven. Guess we were easily pleased back in the olden days. Especially with the different choices of syrup. It was special treat to go out to eat or for someone to bring home a dozen donuts. Nowadays I don't believe it carries any special feelings. Alas, the nation is spoiled.

Morning guys....starting out pretty mild, 38 and we are headed to low 70's again, but a cold front moving through later in the day will bring much more seasonal temps the rest of the week.

Early morning meeting this morning, so I got to get going.

Remember, today is the anniversary of the Challenger disaster, been almost 30 years,

Greetings! I can remember the Challenger disaster like it was yesterday - what a surreal event. Meanwhile, cabotage is when Sebastian Cabot would rig some gizmo so it wouldn't work properly. And blueberry pancakes sounds plenty good. With a side of bacon, of course.

Enjoy your day, Gurus!

The whole area is stunned due to one of our brightest and best is dead. A senior boy who was a starter on the Football team and the wrestling team had his girl friend break up with him and went home and shot himself.......such a huge waste and so so unnecessary. Uwoman taught him in 5th grade, he comes from a great family of hard working people........but somewhere some real darkness was present to resort to this.......damn......I did not know the kid, he was a sophomore when Uboy was a senior so did not hang out with his bunch. The devastation it leaves behind with family and friends is life altering to them and tough on many in a small community like this......all I can do is pray for them all.

The sun comes up and life goes on......67 degrees here today and I need to get the GS out and get the oiled changed......among other things to do I will put on one the old spark plug wires to get it down to where I change the oil on the front end rack of the garage I get work done....

Got the bid in for the installation and materials of 1200 Sq feet of wood flooring in the house......I was glad I was sitting down.....and we went with the walnut stained hickory wood flooring which was very nice and on sale but less than half of what a lot of woods are costing. We are working with Lumber Liquidators on the project which includes a set of stairs also.........stairs are pricy we find out...the whole thing came to around $14K.....I was thinking under 10K when we first got going on this.......I was not thinking right obviously.....

Go gettum Guru's......hug your kids if you have any or just hug anybody today......

Good Morning CGs!

Chilly here. After dropping off RR#1 at school we are going to the home store to pick out some tile for a small section in the basement. I ripped out some cabinet benches we built about 7-8 years ago that my wife didn't like. I will put some tile down and we will put some shelving there instead to help organize the kids' toys.

Marcus, sorry to hear about the young boy. Must have been dealing with some serious issues. Good luck with the flooring, that's some serious sicker shock.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Marcus, it is a senseless waste. But if you are around these kids, you find they aren't as tough as kids used to be. They don't know how to handle rejection/failure. I believe it is because in school we don't allow them to fail, giving them as many chances as they want to "pass". We breed them into thinking everyone is "1st place". Everyone wins a prize, nobody loses. It isn't real life. So when something like this comes up they have no clue as how to handle it.

I've said it before, but I'll say it again.....education (the bleeding heart liberals that are the push for these ideals) does a disservice to our children by not allowing them to fail, not teaching them that sometimes you're not a winner.

OK, (stepping off my soapbox) I'll just keep quiet, I've said my peace.

Health care in thee U.S.

So, I take a prescription that is 60 pills in one month and the copay is $12.00.

The insurance company sends me a letter "Your prescription drug is no longer on our approved list. You have to tale this letter to your doctor with our recommended substitute, the monthly copay for this substitute is $85.00."

Huh?

So, as usual, I can't get an appointment to see the doc for 20 days.
I decided to refill the old prescription and pay retail for one month.

I go into Wallymart pharamacy to pick it up and the girl says "That will be $4.00 please."

Ain't health care in the U.S/ grand????

You are right, TB. I teach my kids sportsmanship, win or lose. Of course, I expect them to win Prepares them for real life better than "here's a trophy for trying". The whole generation of parenting where no one said " no" really screwed kids up.
