My, how time flies and when it comes to cow chips, how flies fly.

Today is NATIONAL COW CHIP DAY

National Cow Chip Day is celebrated annually on January 30th. National Cow Chip Day is not to be confused with National Buffalo Chip Day which is held in February.

By now you may have figured out it's not actually National Cow Chip Day. No reason not to celebrate it anyway.

Fɔzaame!

Speaking of bovine excrement, the high tomorrow will be 7. That is going to feel particularly "refreshing", since it's been in the 30's and 40's for a stretch. Glad that Friday is here, though.

Have a good day, yawlz!

Morning guys...I'm here at school early, I don't know why, just am. Much cooler today and chance of rain later, snow tomorrow. Yuk! But we'll take the moisture in whatever form it comes.

Big "shoot out" tonight. Only two towns in our county, two high schools, one big rivalry. It's at the other schools' place so we will travel the 7 miles. B-ball is winding down, my GS has had a pretty good year, I think he's hoping someone will be asking him to play next year.

Have great day Gurus.

Good Morning CGs!

So the forced basement project by the wife was actually a small blessing in disguise. In the process of looking for a paint can, I discovered that we have a plumbing leak in the basement near the supply valve/meter. Just a small drip from a sweat connection, but it's been going for a few weeks or months now. No damage that I can tell other than a little rust on an unused portion of metal framing that I will cut out. No mold or anything visible. I called the Village and they are not responsible for that portion (I thought they handled the whole supply side) they only handle the buffalo box and meter itself. Have I ever mentioned I hate plumbing? Hey, TB....whatcha doin later?

Other than that, just a few errands today.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Matthew

Thanks for the hood tip BillH. I know I'd be one to throw the hood full open. I've been meaning to get fire extinguishers in the vehicles for years. Maybe this will be the incident that pushes me over the edge.

Most guys will buy the 2 lb. ABC inexpensive extinguisher for their car. Just note that they don't last long, maybe 15 seconds after you activate. That's why you want to stick them in the cracked open hood.

And you can't stand 6 feet away from the car and expect them to do a good job. Plus they really do mess things up and can destroy some things under the hood.

You can get better stuff but be prepared for extreme sticker shock.

Halon is still available (recycled) , the EPA hates it. It removes ALL the oxygen from the fire and doesn't harm anything. A new enviro friendly product is FE3 though I've only seen it in race car systems.

Halotron is the replacement for Halon and also won't hurt anything on your car. A 2.5 lb. handheld runs about $199

If you have a classic car with a trunk, get a 5 lb. bottle even if it's an ABC.

If I had a big buck car, I'd put in one of the systems I install on the racecars, nozzles in the engine bay, can be built with manual push button or fully automatic, temperature activated sensors.

We carry Halon. The EPA allows the recycling because they figure it's better to vent it into the atmosphere while actually fighting a fire than just have it randomly vented into the atmosphere.

I must confess that I'm surprised that Halon is still relatively easily available. This tells me that most folks don't devote a lot of thought to their fire extinguishers. Halon is still the best.

The EPA is run by idiots.

Like the amount of Halon used in homes and cars will make a huge difference.

I'm looking for a good Halon extinguisher as we speak....

After I had the car hauled home I took the garden hose and washed all the dust off it....I gave it a good bath in the engine compartment.....

Well the plumbing fiasco was a typical plumbing fiasco.

I originally intended to replace the whole mini section and sweat new pipe and connections. I couldn't get a 1" to 3/4" female adapter at the store. Then, they didn't have mini pieces of 1" copper pipe. Shortest piece was 2 ft for the handsome sum of $13. Wow. I ended up buying one 1" male adapter which is the piece that was leaking. Took me a half an hour of fighting to get it off. Once it was off I cleaned it really well and sweated the new connection. Surprisingly it didn't leak. I still don't trust it, I'm not a plumber. I'll be watching it like a hawk the next few days. But it's done.

As far as the rest of the project I did a little more patch work on the walls so I couldn't paint tonight. We did go to the store and get a new TV stand and earlier we went to ikea and picked out some shelving. It's coming along. Tile won't be done until my next days off.

Always something.

Well, the shootout wasn't much of a fight. Rosie and I got there and went in to watch the JV boys (I have several of these kids in class) and they were down, but before we went to watch the Varsity games we had made a run and had them by 25. So we go down the hall to the Varsity girls game and it's in the 3rd quarter. Our girls had them 38-0. Yes that's right, ZERO. Our coach was playing "B" and "C" team girls and we were still beating them like that. We finally played nobody but "C" team kids and they finally scored 6 points. Final was like 56-6.

Varsity Boys next, we thought this might be a game as they were coming off a 6 game winning streak. We put it to them right off 16-4 first quarter, 34-9 at the half. Ended up 60-31. But it was a ROUGH game. You could tell there was no love lost between these two teams. GS played a good defensive game, didn't score a lot of points, 8 I think, but had 18 rebounds.

Next Friday we have Homecoming and GS is a King candidate. #3 and her two girls will be home to watch the event as well as #2. So it will be fun.

I did some emergency plumbing work under our deep sink many years ago. It seemed okay, but the next time our long-time family plumber came over I had him look at it. He told me it looked fine - I said, you do understand that I did this work, right?
