I'm shopping for some. I think. My rear brake lines are 30 years old and I should do this while I'm in there.

All I've found is Russell, and then some mystery brand the catalogs are selling. Those ones have a PVC coating on them, which I really like, despite the corny color options. But I don't like not knowing who makes em.

I can't find anything from stoptech, goodridge, earls, etc.



What else is out there?



I guess I could go with rubber but I can't help but wonder if that's bad to have squishy rear application at the same time my SS front lines are already going to work. Seems like they should match. Or maybe squishy is good for avoiding rear lockup with an otherwise twitchy car and driver.

Russell has a pretty good reputation.

IF the rear hoses are expanding (which as you know is possible) , that may be loading the fronts during hard braking at the track. Resulting in overheating the fronts & fluid.

New rubber hose should change this compared to 30 year old but the question would be "by how much?" And I don't think the difference between new rubber and SS would be huge.

It is possible to check caliper and/or rotor temps with temperature indicating labels and templaq paint but it's kinda pricy.

I'd also think that if your ABS is working, the rear lockup wouldn't be a problem.

Don't know if you have the Doug Rippie bias spring in but that is designed to increase the rear brake pressure.

Everything I see is a 4 caliper kit, not sure if they sell only rears?

Goodridge(?) is pretty good, too. Tire Rack sells them.

make sure you get the DOT spec ones

they have a sheath to prevent chafing & fatigue

I'm reading that the goodridge maybe has tighter, thinner wire which I assume means more flexible. I found em, just not on tirerack. A shame since they have good pricing on the rear pads I use.

But now I see some are saying the Russell has the clear sheath over it. Hard to tell from photos. The goodridge don't. Way back when I used 1/2" shrinkwrap over my front lines to do the same.. but that won't work on these factory fit lines, the fittings are too big.

Some claim the SS helps with cooling, LOL! If your brake hoses are the difference between fluid boiling then you got bigger issues.

Oh yes I did boil the fluid last time out. But pretty sure that's because I was lazy and bled with really old Motul fluid which I guess degrades.

I don't think hose expansion is going to alter the pressure or bias (steady-state), it's just going to cause more pedal travel.

I don't have a DRM spring, I have something much stiffer. I wonder if it's rusting inside there? The pedal travel is a bit sticky, or maybe that's the calipers. ABS wasn't invented yet either. The whole brake system on my car is either precision engineering or Bubbarific, I'm not sure which.

Nothing wrong with Russell AN hoses and hose ends.

Everything on my race car is Russell except the fuel filter which is an Earls.. Only because Russell didn't mfgr a -12 filter in the short length I needed.

We are talking $1500-2000 worth of -4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 AN hose and fittings on the brake, fuel and nitrous systems.

Not a single bad roll of hose or AN fitting from them. My nitrous and brake hoses are their crimped end pre built units and again all perfect.

Russell is owned by Edelbrock and it's all USA mfgr'd stuff. I highly recommend it. There are other good AN hose suppliers out there but my recent experience with Russell products will keep me using them.
