this isn't looking good.

push in the pedal... noises... I think it's the throwout bearing. I will record it tomorrow.

I know you're aware, but single or dual mass?

I was running out of battery on my laptop last night!

Ok... here is the entire score as I see it:

1. LuK makes replacement clutches...
2. 01-0113 is the part number for L98 and LT1/4
3. 01-0114 was the number for the LT5
4. According to both LuK and Rockauto, there is one clutch for both, the 01-0113.

This cannot be accurate. There is a difference in geometry between the LT1(et.al.) and the LT5 pressure plates.

This is causing the clutch fork to rub the clutch diaphragm.

I have contacted Rock Auto.

Well shit, they did discontinue it it looks like. Yeah, I don't see how they expect the LT1 unit to magically fit the ZR1 now. At least not without a longer pivot stud at the very least.

Anyhow, this shouldn't concern you, assuming you have the dual mass or equivalent dimension FW. You use the LT1 kit. I don't know how you can get fork rub if you've got all the LT1 ZF parts on your car. I've seen it happen once where someone didn't have the fork fully onto the stud.

BTW, the blue tag clutch sets have a plastic sleeve in the T/O bearing ID. The black tag is all metal in there, and slightly larger ID for the larger shaft.

I know this because I got a misboxed one once. And spent about 6 hours trying to stab a black tag input shaft into a blue tag clutch. I just about stabbed the Napa clerk after that experience. And I also have a blue tag trans now, in case that is all confusing as hell.

I don't think that would cause grinding... too thick a flywheel could. Is your car originally a 6 speed or auto?

There are longer pivot studs available, I forget what's what. I might even have one.

But yeah, you can actually just thread it in less, and use the locking bolt to keep it there. So it's somewhat adjustable. I've never done it though.

Next time you're in there post up some photos or something and we'll figure it out.

Stock OEM DMFW... the engine is a 96 LT1, and was an auto... but the engine should not be the factor here... I have the original OEM 1992 vintage black tag ZF6.

The last clutch I bought fit perfectly. This one is fighting me.

I guess the fork could have been bent during removal... but it strikes me as needing more than 20 lbs of torque on it.

Which year or p/n bellhousing did you use? One is about 0.2" deeper than the other. Most people don't know this, which is why I find it amusing that people are so picky about the flywheel being off a few thousandths.

When? This coming weekend is loading up for me and I'm still fine-tuning details. But I may be able to spare a couple hours if the timing is right.
3/7-3/8 is pretty wide open so far except for Chachi's thing.

I am taking shit apart this weekend. I have no choice in that. Sunday afternoon would fit for reassembly.

OEM 1992 LT1.

Ok. I believe that is the thinner of the two. So more critical to get everything right. I'll let you know what I'm up to this weekend, may have some time to swing by.

does anyone have a spare clutch fork? I would like to see pics of a good one so I can compare to mine... if I have to bend it back a touch, I will.

I suspect, over time, these things bend back... one or two removals, and all sorts of bending occurs... until that one time when it bends than last mm or 2... and it is tweaked.

neither do I, Dave... the problem is that clutch forks for ZF6's are rarer than rare... I am hoping to find one in a salvage yard, but can't be sure of quality.

I could reheat it and then quench it real quick... that might recover some of the strength...

The part that would rub only moves as much as the slave cylinder pushes it... whether its bent or not. Bent would cause low pedal engagement I guess.

Despite the noise, how does that feel compared to before?

Grind it a few times while you're in there so we can look for the shiny spots.

oh, there will be a shiny spot... I am half tempted to estimate and grind away on the fork what isn't needed...

thoughts?

oh, yea... junk parts not made to OEM spec.

The clutch in the front is a SPEC clutch. New.

The fitment is exactly what my LuK RepSet is doing; pushing the diaphragm out from the pressure plate.

This is WRONG.

The clutch in the rear is how it should look.

Most everyone is now getting these junk Chinese pressure plates that are not made to spec. Valeo is out of the business...

the image at the bottom is what cued me to a problem in the first place, but LuK said it was ok...

They are lying...

The other brands will use the terms "radius" the clutch fork... things like that. But the forks are pig metal... they don't do well getting material cut off.

Yeah that front setup looks way off. I'll bring my spares just in case.

I am lucky in that I do have a good, tho used, Valeo PP... a quick hit from scotchbrite and it should be perfect again.

A new friction disc and bearing on inbound. Should be here tomorrow.
