I'm looking at a 1995 Vette , great condition , auto trans , has 111,000 miles on it !!! Question is what is a good price to offer him on this Vette? My biggest concern is the car is coming from Washington , and I'm concerned about smog issues in Cali...... Any input would be greatly appreciated !!!!

Don't hold me to it but I'm thinking in the 8k range. I haven't priced in a long while and condition is everything. What's the asking price?

He is asking 8500... but then there will be shipping costs of about 900.

then he is a bit high... $8k is top dollar, and the miles are "high" for that money... It's low mileage, over all, but people get queer for mileage on a Corvette, as you well know.

It does look nice, tho!

Figure the trans is gonna need a rebuild in 25k or so.

If not yet done, these are the maintenance items:

* wheel bearings
* Shocks
* U joints
* Alternator
* Opti Spark/tune up
* Consider tires and brakes, too

As for CA Emissions? Not a problem at all. The CA emission requirement was simply an excuse to charge the customer $100 for an extra smog test at the factory. The standards are 50 state back then.

Find out the service history and negotiate from there.

Run a CARFAX report... make damned sure it's good and clean. No accidents.

I would also consider flying up and driving it home. It gives you the chance to inspect and it's cheaper... $100 to Seattle by SWA and $300 for gas and hotel home.

I wouldn't get hung up on something being +/- a thousand bucks if it's the right car. I make this mistake every time and I always come to regret it.

The range of asking prices on these things is all over the place and bears little relation to the condition. I've been browsing for the past 6 months.

What makes you think you'll have smog issues? And why not the LT4?

LT4 is a 96... but otherwise, that would be a goal of mine.

Condition and maintenance is God on these cars... it's that simple.

Driving a 95 is like dating Beyonce's slower older sister.

1996 has the optional LT4. It's based on the LT1, the LT4 was rated some 30hp higher... better port angles, roller rockers, higher RPM. The real number was closer to 360hp.

The LT4 was available only with the 6spd.

The LT4 was a one year option only (1996). In '96 all auto trans vettes were LT1, while all 6 speed manuals were LT4. The LT4 models are a bit harder to find due to a limited production. Before I sold my 95 I bought an LT4 and mated it to the auto trans in the 95 with no problem at all.

ps-the LT4 was also available in the 97 TransAm.

The only major difference I'm aware of, other than the LT4 option, is the OBD2 computer.
