Regarding an 86 w/4+3.
Is it possible (or even advantageous )to put a remote bleeder line on the slave cylinder? What are the chances a speed bleeder is available for us? |

The stock clutch is a little weird, at least on the ZF's, seeing that the bleeder is on the bottom!
I bleed mine right side up off the housing, then reinstalled it. You need to be careful doing that since you can push the piston out! |

I remember looking for one and failing. The thread is a 12mm X 1.0 I think?

A 12mm thread is pretty good size for something like this. A lot of brake bleeders are 5/16" (.3125"). ( 8mm is .3149"). A 12mm is .472". While I certainly am in no position to say you"re incorrect, it just seems like a large thread for this application. |

I googled myself and it is the ZF6 that is 12x1.0. http://www.corvetteforum.guru/modules ... act&topic_id=7065&forum=1
I don't remember what the 4+3 had. Worst case you could probably find an adapter at least to run a hose with standard size on the other end of it. The brakes use mostly 10mm, but there is one line to the MC that is smaller (8 or 9mm). And then you have different thread pitches available for each size as well! BTW, I would only recommend Earl's bleeders. The check valve on them is below the threads. With Russell/speedbleeder brand, the check is above the threads. So when you let off the pedal, they draw air in through the threads. They are supposed to not do that if you use thread sealant, but its unavoidable. Makes it a bitch to know if in fact you got all the air out when every stroke has new bubbles in it that were introduced from the previous stroke. |

Thanks for the info regarding the speed bleeders. As it seems, I've got an opportunity to but an '89, 6spd ,Z51 coupe at a preferred price. If it goes thru, I"ll sell the '86 as quickly as I can to bring the '89 home. I hope I can pull it off.

Good move. That year and options is arguably the best of the TPI cars. I'm a little tempted to do that over a 96 collector edition.

Regarding my opening post on this thread, yes, a speed bleeder is available for the early C4 4+3 clutch slave cylinder.
Look for the "HELP" section at the parts store and grab " SPEED BLEEDER" part number 12706. It is a metric thread size of M10 x 1.0. |
