It's 8:40 AM on the east coast and I'm hunkered down in our A/V room watching the pre-race coverage. It's a nice day in Le Mans—who else plans to watch at least some of the race?

And here we go ...

... fifteen minutes in, it's Porsche, Porsche, Audi in LMP1, Nissan, Nissan, Nissan in LMP2, Aston, Ferrari, Aston in GTE Pro, and Aston, Ferrari, Porsche in GTE Am. The #64 factory Corvette (Gavin driving) is 39th overall, 6th in class. The #50 "privateer" Corvette (Ruberti driving) is 48th overall, 8th in class.

My TV package doesn't have Fox Sports 2 (I do have FS1).

If your cable TV offers FS2:

http://www.foxsports.com/foxsportsgo/

Besides the race, you can get in-car on the Corvette

At one hour in, it's still Porsche, Porsche, Audi in LMP1, Oreca-Nissan, Oreca-Nissan, Ligier-Nissan in LMP2, now Aston, Aston, Ferrari in GTE Pro, and now Ferrari, Ferrari, Aston in GTE Am. The #64 Corvette has moved up slightly to 36th overall, 5th in class. The #50 Corvette is 48th overall, 10th in class.

There's been some crazy driving, but all 55 cars that started are still running.

And just like that, it goes horribly wrong: the #92 GTE Pro 911 RSR blows an engine and catches on fire. There's also significant body damage to #13 Rebellion LMP1 car after it collided with the #42 LMP2 car. Full course yellow.

Back to green after a fairly long full course yellow. Still Porsche, Porsche, Audi in LMP1 and Oreca-Nissan, Oreca-Nissan, Ligier-Nissan in LMP2, now Aston, Ferrari, Aston in GTE Pro, and now Ferrari, Aston, Ferrari in GTE Am. The #64 Corvette has moved up to 33rd overall, still 5th in class. The #50 Corvette is having trouble; 52nd overall, last in class.

The Porsche 911 RSR that caught on fire has been retired—now 54 cars still running.

The #64 Corvette is now 32th overall, 6th in class; but definitely competitive. The #50 Corvette has at least gotten back out of the pits; 53rd overall, last in class.

It's Porsche, Audi, Audi in LMP1, now Oreca-Nissan, Ligier-HPD, Oreca-Nissan, in LMP2, now Corvette (Milner driving), Aston, Aston in GTE Pro, and now Ferrari, Aston, Viper in GTE Am. The #64 Corvette is now 26th overall. The star-crossed #50 Corvette is 51st overall, last in class.

Oh ... and they're crashing like crazy—like there aren't twenty hours to go.

It remains Porsche, Audi, Audi in LMP1, now Oreca-Nissan, Oreca-Nissan, Oreca-Nissan in LMP2, now Aston, Corvette (Taylor now driving), Aston in GTE Pro, and now Aston, Ferrari, Ferrari in GTE Am. The #64 Corvette is now 24th overall. The #50 Corvette is now 49th overall, 12th in class.

53 cars still listed as running, but a couple more will likely retire within the next few hours. It's getting darker in Le Mans.

I was watching the 64 in car on Foxsports Go. Couldn't tell what was going on, but it was sure fun to watch.

I'm amazed at how those LMP cars passed the Corvette, almost like it was standing still.

Tons of downforce, lower weight, and those electrical engines (in the LMP1 cars) will do that. There's thought that they'll try to make the GT Pro cars a couple of seconds faster in 2016.

Weight & horsepower.

LMP1 - 1920 lbs
C7R - 2750 lbs

The downforce only comes into play in the corners.

On a straight, it actually slows you down.

It's scary, especially at night. I was in a 25 hour race, in a Spec Miata and got passed by this car more than once.

The 458 screams like a banshee on the track... The Vette sounds like a UPS truck... but the Vette has them all covered with that wonderful torque!

And the Europeans LOVE the roar of American V8s... just love the sound

John, you guys need to do Sebring next year... that's all there is to it. No more Internet view fests. You need to SMELL it. FEEL it. Embrace it. LIVE it.

Join us for dinner at the Watering Hole... Greek food at Jimmy's... after race breakfast at Bob Evans! I think with some jiggling, we can find you and Evie some room at the inn.

For the moment, check out VIR... it's a long day's drive to Southern VA.

http://www.imsa.com/races/virginia-international-raceway

Figure 7 hours drive time to VIR.

Figure 18 hours drive time to Sebring... the biggest problem with driving the 95 corridor in March are the Canadian drivers on holiday... they are stuck at 100 kph... sigh...
