Arguing with discount tire internet jockeys is probably not the most productive use of time, but damn it's entertaining. I wonder if they use the same lug nut torque database as the brick and mortar stores. My gf's wheel fell off her car after they installed it at a local store, mangled the front end.

Read the email string starting at the bottom about my quest to order some Nittos for my tire swing. It's a very high performance tire swing!

You should also use the correct lug nut torque on your invoices before someone's wheel falls off. It's 100, not 80 ftlbs.

It's an 85 corvette. Last time I entered the vehicle they didn't ship because it's not the stock tire size. I don't have stock wheels. I just want my tires.

since when are you "Chuck H."?

What tools... I have run into that with tires for our old Jeep. I wanted 235/70/15 (IIRC) and the stock is 215/75/15.

First off, Sams Club would only sell what was in their book as "OEM Approved". Aftermarket rims be damned.

Tire Rack calls me and says "Those are not the OEM tire". I reply, "I know... but I also don't have OEM rims... American Racing of some sort, they are either 7.5" or 8" wide. Either way, these fit.

And the 235's will fit on OEM rims, too, for that matter. I have seen a lot of these Cherokees with this size tire."

They responded by saying that the stock rim could blow out because its too narrow.

oh. sure.

Chuck - since google forced me to have a name instead of just an email.

Yeah, short of researching the exact make and model that used those tire sizes from the factory, some bonehead is going to intervene. I figured "tire swing" would be self explanatory, but I underestimated. A manly-man checkbox on their order form would be a good idea.

This is the nanny state we live in. And to think I could die from a bald tire blowout because they delayed my new tires from shipping!

I should get the treadwear warranty and complain after my next track day.

Try Summit

I called them this afternoon about running Mickey Thompsons

They didn't know the answer, so they called up the manufacturer for the correct one.

I have been impressed with their phone techs at Summit. Good to know what you know, and know what you don't. They were over $100 higher on the tires though.

I find that with the Tirerack, if you speak from a position of knowledge - "I have aftermarket rims" - they don't care.
