Last week, on my way to work, stopped at a light, a guy in a pickup backed up and nailed my front bumper with his trucks hitch!

Not super bad, but essentially, a $2000 paint ding.

Goes to McJack's Corvette for a fix to the bumper cover and a paint job to the hood.

I am also going to have him look a the top, the clear is showing signs of popping.

he forgot his cell phone, and his house is RIGHT on the corner where we were waiting for the light.

I am glad he had the hitch... otherwise, he would have ridden up the hood... do the math on THAT repair!

Ouch. I used to leave my receiver hitch in for other idiots to run into, until one day I hammered my shin into it walking behind the truck.

He should have to forfeit his hitch now.

On the bright side, my vette looks slightly better today, relatively speaking.

Ouch!

If you have a vehicle with a trailer hitch you want to try and protect, check out: http://www.superbumper.com/

I've got one of those on my truck and 3 times someone has attempted to park by feel behind me, I've found parts of either their license holder or license on the ground.

Don't know if it would have protected you or just rolled over the top of the hood, so unsure if a Vette would have been protected or not.

It would have taken out the hood, more then likely.

Either way, the paint would have been done.

Even more than that, great company and owner to work with. I had some teething issues originally where it didn't fit exact where it needed to be, it set off the backup alarm. Twice he sent me different rubber pads to try to find where it needed to be on my truck, all on his nickel. Then I lost one of the end covers over a year after I'd bought it and got ahold of him to buy another cap. Well again he sent me one at no cost, can't beat that with a stick.
The owner said they've had reports of hits around 25 mph on equipped vehicles with zero damage to the guard equipped vehicle.
One more thing I was told if I ever got hit and the bumper guard was damaged, send them a copy of the police report and they'll send you a new one.

I like mine though after 6 years I'm seeing a little rust on it and will need to do some repainting sometime soon. I think it was well worth the money, it's already saved my back bumper and box from damage.

Jack is painting the top today... the hood is later in the week.

The bumper is fixed and adjusted so it fits the hood line better - it's never been off before, so I can't wait to see this!

All in all, exciting stuff! Can't wait to post pics!!

I dunno, the point is to deter them, not invite a bump. I'd want something with barbs on it.

And it looks hideous. Not quite as bad as those bumper guards some people hang out of their trunk. I really don't see the point in an accessory to protect your vehicle from damage, that looks worse than damage. Like a diaper or something.Resized Image

That stuff looks like it was designed by the same people that make you remove the instrument cluster to change out a single burnt out bulb.

Can you say "Brain Dead"!

I know in the Vette there are 4 bulbs you don't. You do in the Van, also had to in the Cutlas and Escort I used to have. Talking in general, anyone that designs a car that the cluster has to come out to change a bulb should do penance and have to change them for a few years. Personally I always wondered if there's a way to put the bulbs in a convenient place and fiber optics the light to where it has to go?
