Now I ran into a 66 BB Coupe.......its uh rough and has a lot of custom stuff and I think its a truck 454 in it......the frame looks good and it has all the front end and bushings done and a fiberglass composite monoleaf spring. It has a big Alumn. radiator......4M with a Hurst.....no power nothing.....

It has the high RPM tach and an 80 lb oil pressure gauge......the interior is crap......its supposed to be an original BB car......that's what they all say....

Car was Nassau Blue trim standard but what is a 437 interior......here are some pics......the guy wants 35K........no other parts.....

Resized Image

67 back up light has been added.....

Resized Image

454 but what year and out of what.......It looked like C7 or T J 182373....could not get a casting number.......

Resized Image

Well at least I wouldn't have to mess with the headlight buckets.....

Resized Image

Looks to be made in Oct or early Nov of 65....

Resized Image

Looks like an A.O. Smith body but can't figure the interior out.....

Resized Image

Little help on this Guru's......just thinking about it........no front bumpers....

The guy bought a numbers right 69 427 and this was part of the deal.....to buy the 69 he had to take the 66. He is in the middle of restoring a barn find 58 and does not want to mess with this .......or his wife told him he couldn't......according to him....Car is out of Idaho as the plate says and it has good title according to the guy........

Forgot the interior pic......homemade seat covers with fuzzy stuff......guages are all there except for the clock...which is an electric tach.....geez...the humanities......that would be because the mechanical tach has no place to go on the distributor I'm thinking......the glove box inside is gone.....probably impossible to find.....

Good candidate to turn into a Grand Sport.

Might as well have 2.

I love those Grand Sports......then I would need a 96 to round it out.....

So Bill what about the 80 lb oil pressure gauge? BB only? The code on the interior is actually a 65 code that they must have carried over in the early 66's.....It listed as White + Black Vinyl......so black dash and white seats?

I don't know Bill...when I looked in the hole where the glove box goes I did not recall seeing a lot of plumbing now that I think of it......

.....and what about the engine can you tell anything from the numbers I gave or do I need casting numbers?

I will offer the guy 18K and see what he says..........

The 80 psi gauge did come on a BB BUT it's easy to pull a 60lb. gauge and install a 80.

While the s.n. is a fairly early car, the STD is also a code for 66. Dash & seats - black

There's zero plumbing behind the glovebox aside from the large heater box that has the doors in it.
However, if it was a delete, the 2 knobs above the radio wouldn't be there.

All I can tell you from the engine pic id that it has chrome valve covers.
Yea, casting #'s

Look for a rear sway bar, if not there, look for holes in the rear of the trailing arms that a sway bar would attach to. BB only.

AND that's only if someone kept the original trailing arms on that car which is almost impossible to tell.

I certainly wouldn't pay more than that.

Joe bought a 64 driver Vert, almost stock last year for $19k

@ $18, you have to consider the mechanicals.

Rebuilt trailing arms = $375 per side
Rear end - $650

The bushings - you could do yourself

New springs & shocks - about $500

Putting a good interior in is about $4k

Removing the ugly rear spoilers - PRICELESS

Check the finish of the fiberglass, front fenders inside the wheel wells. Smooth - press molded, possibly original (should have a 3 inch bonding strip). Rough glass inside indicates a hand laid nose/fender (lower quality).

437 is the designation for a Coupe body.
The interior code is STD

What I would do with this car.

Resto Road/Street Racer

Get rid of the Gawdawful rear spoiler. Keep the flairs, hood, chin spoiler.

Put in Grand Sport headlights , remove the 4 headlights, cut the rest of the egg crates out of the grill, keep the chrome grill surround and put black mesh behind it or 3 flat aluminum bars the whole way across.

Keep the sidepipes.

Gut the interior and make the center dash and console look like the Grand Sport in the pic above with the gauges. Do the glove compartment like the GS, open, no door.

Put in heat barrier and new carpet, build door panels and have them upholstered like the GS (way cheaper than $500 each for stock).

Put in a 4 point rollbar in the back with harness bar.
Install comfortable, highback race seats or Z06 seats with the pass thru for a harness.

Install the rear GS scoups and put a pseudo chrome racing filler cap in the stock location.

Change the wheels to GS replicas ($1,800) or Torque Thrust (cheaper) with 3 bar knock off center caps.

Bill's right on.... Grand Sportish restomod.

Also hints to orginal BB car is the rear diff. BB cars have caps on the inner yolk instead of U bolts. The codes for the gear ratio also differ between SB and BB.

Hey hey the Honda project is imminent......I even thought about how I was going to take pics of the tear down and put stuff in bags the other day....so its moving right along.....

The other thing I noticed on the 66 was the hood latch was on the drivers side which I believe was a BB trait only.......I talked to the guy selling again today and he is stuck on 35K because he says BB cars will bring that......I told him I might consider 25K but would have to look real hard at the car. When I coded the engine it came back a 396 or 402 from a 72 midsize Chevy car of which were low horse engines...... That is a CTJ code on the engine pad. I would need to get it up in the air to get the engine casting #'s.....

Just that 25k would be my limit.

Add 15k and hundreds of hours to do the GS thing and you be about 10k ahead.

At 35k (which is too much), you'll be nowhere on value.

His assumption that it's worth 35 cause it's a BB is wrong cause it could be a truck or boat motor.

Or sumpting out of a John Deere

Yeah I hear you....he is assuming someone will take this car and restore it with a correct type engine and have a big block car because he believes it to be an original big block car...which it may be. So his thinking is anything BB is worth a ton......I like that green car......
