Which car? There is an antenna power lead off the aftermarket stereo that you should tap into the vehicle antenna line. I will look for the wiring diagrams if you give me the year of the car.

IIRC, there's a brown wire running thru the console that goes to the antenna relay in the rear. It probably grounds that relay when you turn on the stock radio and should work with the aftermarket (ck the instructions). I put a toggle switch in the console to keep the antenna from going up when using the cassette deck.

This is generic, I didn't have time to look last night:

Resized Image

Should be a pink wire.

I assume there is a problem with the current antenna?

If you went generic aftermarket, it will still work, the antenna was made by Hirada, IIRC, for GM.

The thing is, there is a harness at the antenna that has all you need.

Remove the LR tire.

Remove the inner fender.

Contort yourself into a pretzel and remove the bolts that hold the antenna to the chassis.

There is a special socket that GM sells to remove the crown bolt that holds the top of the antenna in... It's thin... should be able to find one somewhere. They come with a mast replacement kit or a new GM antenna. I had two, gave one to a friend, lost the other... damnit.

The wire at the harness should be pink.

Check the attached file. It has a PDF in it that has the FSM sections on the wiring diagram from the various components.
