Winter is coming, and it's time to replace the tires on my 2500HD Silverado

Just wondering what people recommend

The tires (General) that GM put on it are, save for the tow rating, garbage.
I need to put it in 4WD just to drive in the rain!

I don't really take it off road
I have driven though 2ft snowbanks with it.

So what do people recommend?

Honestly, I go to discount tire's website and search for tires, then read the reviews. I've had good luck that way.

I have some Goodyear Wranglers on my Duramax that I am surprised that I like and have given good service.....60K miles.....I do rotate every now and then. In the past we have used Michelins and they were good for 70K of hard use but they piss me off with how much they cost.......

I have also become a Bridgestone guy on the Tahoe's......70K on those tires and that should work well on a half ton pickup.......

This deal looks interesting

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.j ... ortCode=16783&sortSize=16

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/WheelC ... 9&autoModClar=Regular+Cab

Though I thinking of upgrading to the 17in setup
I may just put the Blizzaks on my stock wheels and get the upgrade in the spring.

Toyo Open Country AT II.

I had them on the Avalanche and got over 65K miles out of them... they were 285 75R16's BTW. They were great in rain, sleet and snow. Pretty quite on dry pavement and at hwy speeds. Mine were E load range and towed great. Good off road in sand and dirt but lets be honest about the kind of off roading you can do in a full sized 7K LB sport ute..... It was nothing serious. Very liveable as daily driver tires.... My MPG didn't take a hit like it will with some AT tires either.

I replaced the Toyo's with Cooper Discoverer ATP. They were a lot cheaper and the Avalanche had over 140K mikes on it at that point and I knew I was going to buy a new truck soon... The Coopers were also good tires. I ran them about a year before I sold the Avalanche, put 18K miles on them and hardly put a dent on the tread wear. Noisier on pavement than the Toyo's and the MPG took a hit compared to the Toyo's.

All in all I liked the Toyo's better and don't mind the extra cost. Not that the Coopers were bad - because IMO they were really quite good tires... the Toyo's were just that much better.

I'm buying new tires after Christmas for my 2013 GMC Sierra Z71 and I'm buying Toyo's. Currently the truck has the factory Good Years and they SUCK it big time.... just turned 20K miles and I have hated every single mile... They are noisy, no traction in the rain or snow (I'd be scared to take it off road even on wet grass) and the tread wear is getting chewed down already.

I generally trust Tire Rack's reviews and see you've already started looking at some of their results.
