Thanks guys,

The covers? I don't even want to think about them.

Besides, I have tons of other stuff to play with.

BTW, 2 of those pipes are $650.00

Yea, Joel, lucky.

Very few pits (probably stone chips), you have to be about 4 inches from the tips to even see them.
The tips are SO Close to the rear tires (the covers are even closer to the front tires).

The rust pitting on the up pipes is visible but now shiny and I can live with that for now.

There's quite a few years of use left in these.

Just on the rusty up pipes , not the chambered section and obviously not the chrome.

The problem was that the pipes wouldn't fit in the glass bead cabinet, had to use some old, dirty glass (2/3 of a 5 gal. bucket full) and do them out in the driveway.
Amazing how quickly you go thru the media when it isn't recycling in the cabinet.

Chambered sections were scuffed with automotive ScotchBrite and Simple G. Then shot with VHT Flameproof Dull Aluminum.

Mother's Mag Wheel polish on the chrome.

Damn, deleted your post Andy, I keep hitting edit instead of quote.

..............

Thanks,

They will do for now, $650 can be used for other parts.

They must be repo pipes since they were aluminumized, factory pipes were plain steel.

Plus, no A.O.Smith body came with side pipes.

A resto on the covers makes me cringe, probably 40 hours of work.

I'm going above driver quality, everything will be restored to factory except the paint, frame paint and wheels.
The frame (with the exception of not using the asphalt based paint) and suspension finishes are factory correct with correct paint marks. All the nuts and bolts (95% original)have the correct plating and head marks.

The paint and the side pipe will screw up any judging but I don't care.

My buddy, an NCRS Master Judge, looks at the suspension and couldn't find any deducts including the secret coating on the bare metal that he couldn't see.

Also plan to drive it - a lot.

Even with those deducts it should get a Top Flight award I'm thinking....if anything its over restored, meaning its better than when it came off the line....which to me is a good thing....I would sure like a ride in it someday....I would buy the beers at the casino.....
