Do I spy an A/C Programmer Module in the Yellow circle???

Yup - not your first day obviously...

Thanks on Programmer link - sure hope I can confirm that that's the problem. (and it HAS TO be for my '90, as well as '90 L98 ? )

As far as I know it should fit both. I will try to verify that later.

Of COURSE not so lucky as one of those 2 modules. It's BEHIND the Instrument Cluster.

And IC is NOT coming out as did the '94 IC, OR the '87 IC. Looks like AT LEAST steering wheel bezel and dash frame will need to come out.

ChuckB is rapidly EXPONENTIALLY approaching 'the' point...

aka; As Is, Where Is.

edit: Then again, maybe not 'AIWI' ('til tomorrow anyway)

I/C out. Correct orientation got it out nice n easy. Just like '94...

Straight shot to A/C Programmer.

My understanding is it is the "hush panel " (what I call it) that is above your knees. I thought you could remove the ac programmer without removing the dash. It should be against the firewall.

I think somethin' else too - woulda' been easier to do a can opener through firewall.

Now - to remove, and test harness leads.......

Plugged everything in, except for Heater and A/C Programmer - from Step 2 post 61 above (Blower runs all the time).

Blower was Off.

next step...

... tomorrow.

========================================

edit:

Then again, turn it on, and listen to the fan come up, and start running.

Open in Circuit 65.

Damn!!!

Tonight, confirm that somewhere in diags for OTHER problems, there is a reference to fault in Circuit 65...........

Now I'm remembering that I didn't plug in the 2 'relays' [?], post #1. Damn.

Anyone know what those 2 devices are?

Alright - Chart 3 Blower runs all the time...

Step one pull A/C Head, result still running.

Says replace A/C Head Unit. So that would make Radio Head Unit inoperative???

Should be able to confirm by other symtoms' Flow Charts.

In the earlier c4s the blower fan is almost always a bad blower control module. I know the fsm might say otherwise, but that's my research. Not to say that's your problem with all of the other symptoms you have.

I'll have to gently ISOLATE the individual leads, and wiggle them. I HAVE seen the tranny selector lights flicker - probably something there.

Anyway, there IS ONE manifestation that I've had, since day 1 that I owned it - in the odometer. And I just saw yesterday the full problem in odometer, before it transitions to mileage.......

I don't know it this is related or not - it has remained constant in it's error, while I diagnose this new issue here.

When you first turn ON ignition, LCD lights up ALL segments in each digit.

2 of my digits are 'scrambled', as FSM calls it. First pic below.

Then, same digits are incomplete in mileage - second pic.

How many miles on my car? 3x,x44

Anyone with thoughts???????????

If that's your only problem I'd say it's the LCD. If you have a lot of random dash problems the dash is fed from the CCM so I'd look there or grounds (which you already did).

Might want to read this thread about dielectric grease, some good info from BillH.

I didn't see pro/con, on DE Grease there Joel...

But I put on a film every connector that I could get my hands on.

Anyway, I fired her with a new battery, + re-seated connections.

Spooled up fine, everything works - A/C, Radio, but I DO have to wiggle the key to get the 'Key In Ignition' chime to sound off.

Ignition Switch is stiff / sticky, in a way. Needs graphite / oil.

???

And now, ZERO LCD flicker.

BUT, bulbs NOW in left side of I/C (RPM's) are flickering. That's something I've done, since they didn't do that immediately after I/C re-assembly.

Hmm...

So I'll have to pull the I/C again, double check connections there.

And, pull Ig. Switch cylinder, since that is dirty, fouled obviously... Does the wheel have to come off for IG Switch access???

Yea, strg wheel has to be removed. Does car have air bags? If so then that adds a step also for coil removal.

Joel

Here's a picture to give you a good idea of the key tumbler location.

Not much help in identifying your connectors, sorry.

For the ignition I would use a small amount of contact cleaner followed up with compressed air and then graphite to lubricate. No need to disassemble it.

Old battery tested good. Not good; means weak current was NOT the problem...

Question now is, does LED Circuit go through Ig Switch? Even if it does, I think there's other bad connections...

LED flicker is GONE. But RPM bulbs flicker MIGHT be too much grease... AND, RPM needle is 'binding'. ???

Fired up again, from Closed Loop the other day.

No codes.

Chimes for Lights On worked. As did Chimes for Key In Ignition.

Re-assembly is a pain, but no 'problem'. Breakdown for problem re-appearance is worse pain...

Instead of pulling Steering Wheel, I'm going to try to 'flush' Ig Switch.

Rags under column, and spray lube into Ig Switch, and work the key a few times.

I don't believe this will interfere with chip read.......

Stuck the spray tube all the way into Ignition Switch, and let loose. Then worked the key On, Accessory, back and forth.

Then put shop vac to the switch, pulled out what excess that I could, vac down to column 'cuff', pulled more run-off.

Key in Ignition, NO chime. Spun up fine, chime OK for 'Lights On'.

Still listening, if anyone else is reading their own FSM's...

edit:
'Lights ON' chime now is fail.

Alright - Flow Chart for fail Key in Ig Chime.

Step 1 - the lights DO come on.

Step 2:

What the hell is 'C'???????????

I know C1 - C16, and D1 - D16.

???????????????????????????????????

This test is obviously doing a by-pass. But where???
