Harrumph!! Replacing my headlight motor gears the other day and broke a piece off of the housing (dropped it). Everything works fine except one of the gears is exposed. Looks like it has a part number 0527-013-j. Any ideas where to get one? Thanks.

Do you have a picture of which part broke?

sounds like the motor cover... and I doubt you will get one.

your best bet is to get a used headlight assembly.

Check vette2vette.com.

It is the motor cover. Just thought I would try my luck with the part number. Thanks for your input!

That doesn't look like a GM part number. Might have been a production number, supplier number, etc.

Here's an update. I bought a new motor and installed and it works great. How do I adjust the headlight to take the slop out of it? It travels (is loose) about a half inch or so.

Frank, the headlight gear setup is different for the early cars versus the later and I'm not 100% familiar with it. I'll have to do some research and get back to you.

Possible problem might be the adjustment screws/bolt with the plastic bumper. If I remember correctly there are at least two of these hidden in the bowels of the assembly. One is for the opening travel, the other is for closing travel.
I had one of these fall out of mine years ago and the light assembly would bounce when closed.

I think Joel is on the right track. Did you take a look at the rubber bumpers? Any progress?

I know this won't help you but might help the next guy.
If you break some plastic stuff, I've tried 2 things:
http://www.plastex.net/Product_Info.php
along with one of those UV glue pen things.

The first I used to recreate some missing mounts on my dash bezel and it worked. Had to do a little messing around but was able to make some missing mounting tabs with it. You can make some missing plastic stuff or use it to repair broken items. You can use it to rejoin 2 pieces back together but it can be a little messy at times.

The UV is one of those things off the infomercials on TV. Had an occasion to unfortunately break a plastic item and tried it and it actually worked joining the 2 parts back together.

In a scenario where you broke a plastic piece out of the motor housing, as long as you have the piece I'd actually try the UV one first.

Just some thoughts.
