... Slightly Slower 66 is now available from Amazon and Barnes and Noble, completing a strange trilogy of sorts (though the two others are being revised). From the back jacket:

"What happens when a husband and wife set out on a trip across America via Route 66 in a Chevrolet Corvette in celebration of their 20th wedding anniversary?

In Slightly Slower 66, John Mulhern III writes about traveling a total of 6,094 miles in fifteen days, including eight wonderful days on Route 66 itself—the most time the couple has yet been able to devote to the “Mother Road.” The route goes through sixteen widely (and wildly!) different states including not only stops in the big cities of Chicago, Santa Fe, Los Angeles, and Denver, but also nights spent in the small cities and towns of Tucumcari, Holbrook, and Barstow. The expected adventures and sights on the road yield to visits with friends old and new, encounters with various other Corvettes and other vehicles of interest, and more than a few great places to eat, sometimes in the most unexpected places.

This is a book for travel lovers and definitely for Corvette lovers, but most of all it is for devotees of the absolutely stunning beauty and endless variety of the United States of America. It includes eleven detailed maps of the particular route travelled along Route 66, a foreword and afterword, an annotated bibliography, an index, and over 140 photos and illustrations, almost all of them in color."

Here's what I think is one of the better pictures in the book—that's Louis in the Painted Desert portion of the Petrified Forest National Park.
