On my way to lunch, a Peterbilt rear-ended me at a stop light.

Thankfully, he was going REAL slow... he has stopped and was drifting up to the light, when he lost me in his blind spot - the hood!

Thud.

It has scuffed the rear bumper pretty good, but the main damage is a tear in the lower right portion of the bumper.

The driver is insured, and admitted to the accident.

No injuries; the truck was doing about 2mph.

Then again, the kinetic energy in an 18-wheeler at 2mph is staggering.

My Vette was only cosmetically damaged. I don't think that even the bumper impact absorbing material was hurt. Won't know for sure until the adjusters are done.

Time to call McJack's!!!

Geez that's to bad Andy.....that is a total rookie move by the truck driver if you don't know where they are then you stop where you are at......I am surprised he did not offer to settle right on the spot so it did not get turned in to his insurance......they frown on any type of mishap.......glad you were not hurt.....

oh, yes. it looks very fixable.

I need to get under to make sure that the impact absorbing material is ok, and that there are no signs of bends in the frame.

The C4 is real easy to find bend frame problems... the epoxy that bonds the steel frame to the SMC body panels and storage area will break and leave gaps in the seams.

It's also the death knell of the poor car...

Only collision I had with a semi was a 76 Montego while in high school. Name "lucky" was written on her cab door.
Anywho, glad you are okay - bumpers can be fixed or replaced. Be sure to check out your exhaust system and make sure it didn't get jammed forward, check wiring, etc.
Hope all goes well with the insurance

I haven't seen any damage to the exhaust. I think his bumper was too high...

The exhaust sounds the same (I do have a leak up at the transmission I need to fix)...

I am concerned about the offset nature of the impact. It was more on the right than left... and that might have a bad result to my frame.

I really need to crawl under and check.

The preliminary estimate is in... Just under $1100.

What is still to debate is if there is any hidden damage and we won't know that until the car gets to the body shop and Jack has the chance to take it apart.

The latest update...

The bumper cover needs to be replaced. Apparently, the cover was stretched beyond repair. They can flex, but go to far, it damages and distorts the cover.

No structural damage was found... whew...

ETA is Saturday... hopefully.
